In 2000, Susan Ducharme Hoben discovers that she is suffering from cancer. She goes for treatment with the help of her husband, Bruce. Susan promises that she will prepare a party when she recovers. The party is called Celebration of Life, and it is prepared shortly after she recovers. While at the party, she thinks that this marks the end of her struggle with cancer. She celebrates the day of this party for the next eight years. She discovers that her beloved husband, Bruce, is also suffering from cancer. They have two children and each child has a family. These families and their friends must unite to see a beloved one die in peace.

Dying Well is a memoir by Susan Ducharme Hoben. A number of lessons are learnt from her story of love and death. One of these lessons is that death should be accepted as part of our lives. Susan and her family accept that they should aid a loved one die in peace and detest from the desire to compel him to try to escape death. Life should be celebrated all the time so that we can realize its importance. After recovering from her cancer, Susan understands the importance of life and realizes a need to celebrate it.

The positive thing that I liked and enjoyed most about the book was the author's way of developing important people in her life. Susan slowly develops people who were very important in her life so that we can know their impact in her life and Bruce's. Susan shows us the importance of making our own research and not letting other people do all the important decisions in our lives. She researches about cancer although she is not a medical professional and helps her husband in making the right decisions regarding his cancer treatment.

The only thing I am to criticize about the book was that the author uses medical terms like adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine that I could not understand. The book is exceptionally well-edited. It lacks erotic content and has very low instances of profanity.

The above reasons have compelled me to give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. I recommend it to people suffering from deadly diseases and have no hope of recovering. It will be a source of comfort for them during this time of trial. We should always keep our families and friends informed about problems disturbing us because this will reduce the burden we are having. This is what Susan did through emails and I liked it.
