THE ALTITUDE JOURNALS, written by David J. Mauro, is a beautiful autobiography. David was at the lowest point of his life. He lost his brother, Danny, to the cold hands of death. He felt guilty over the death of Danny because he did not think that he did enough to help Danny with his alcohol problems. A short while after the death of Danny, David went through a bad divorce with his wife. He lost his self-esteem and became depressed. He almost gave up on himself; luckily, other people had not given up on him. His brother-in-law, Ty, invited him to join his group to climb Mount Denali, which is the highest mountain in North America. David did not hesitate to take up the offer.

He was an amateur mountain climber, yet he reached the summit of mountain Denali. His experience at Mount Denali rejuvenated him. He proceeded to climb the seven highest mountains in the seven continents of the world, also known as the seven summits. David's mountain climbing encouraged forgiveness and healing in his life. As well, he met Lin during this period through online dating. Lin turned out to be the love of his life.

This book is an assemblage of relevant themes, such as perseverance, love, forgiveness, success, diversity, nature, and relationships. David was at a very low point in his life; however, he did not give up. He persevered and exploited the opportunity given to him by Ty. David was an amateur mountain climber. In every mountain that he climbed, he was faced with dire challenges. However, he persevered; he overcame the challenges and was rewarded with success.

Love is expressed in the story through his relationship with Lin. The love they have for each other is simply beautiful. Diversity and nature are major themes in this book; this is seen through David's description of the various locations all around the world where he climbed mountains. To become successful is very difficult; however, the achievement of success is the best feeling in the world. Climbing each of those mountains was very difficult; however, David felt victorious when he reached the summits of the mountains. The writing style of the author is simple, clear, and concise. This book is exceptionally edited; I did not find any errors in it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I did not observe any drawbacks in this text; hence, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who are going through a midlife crisis.
