Review of Igniting the Flame Within

Igniting the Flame by Mya Soul is a nonfiction book that narrates the author’s spiritual awakening. The book opens with a school reunion meticulously planned by the author. She anticipated a night of fun and laughter but was disappointed by the dismal turnout. Things took a nosedive when her husband drank too much and became unruly. Despite her dampened spirits, she catered to the few attendees whom she hadn’t seen in years. At the end of the night, she thanked the guests, and as she hugged Jake (her first crush), she experienced an intense energy surge. This seemingly innocent encounter would alter the course of her life.
The author presents the material in journal entries, which I liked most about the book. Her day-to-day activities provide readers with an insight into her life. Since the day of the reunion, there’s an apparent change in how she interacts with her husband. She notes things that her husband, Damien, does that displease her. These incidents of gas lighting made me pity the author, and I hoped that the couple would resolve their differences. It was heartbreaking to see a fourteen-year marriage on the rocks, and I wondered how they got to that point. The one qualm I had with the book is that the story is one-sided. I understand that the book consists of the author’s journal entries, but it would’ve been eye-opening to hear her husband’s side of the story. From the author’s account, it was easy to dislike Damien.
That energy surge that the author experienced when she hugged Jake was a kundalini awakening, a result of coming in contact with a twin flame. Throughout the book, the author elucidates the types of soul connections, i.e., twin flame, soulmate/soul family, and karmic soul. Readers like myself who are new to the psychic realm will find the material eye-opening. The author explained that a twin flame connection is the rarest connection, and most people will never meet their twin flame. Although the author possesses psychic abilities, she needed help navigating the twin flame connection as the energy surge was overwhelming. I was intrigued to follow her progress. Readers on a spiritual journey will find helpful pointers from the steps she took. I appreciate that the author warned readers about fake online gurus and dubious tarot card readers.
The story is well written and professionally edited. I spotted a few errors which weren’t distracting. I was shocked by the plot twist towards the end of the book. My plebian mind wouldn’t help but wonder why the author, a psychic, didn’t see it coming.
This book will appeal to readers interested in hypnosis, reincarnation, and psychic abilities. Hence, I will recommend it to them. Fans of romance stories will also enjoy this book since there’s a prevalent love triangle between the author, Damien, and Jake. The only thing I disliked about the book is that it is a one-sided narration. That isn’t the author’s fault. She presented her journal entries, and I appreciated them. I will award the book 4 out of 4 stars because it was well executed.
