Twisted But True Book III: Plugging Up the Holes by Darren Burch is the final book in this series. As a teenager, Darren Burch could not save two girls who were victims of a fiery car crash. At this time, he decided he wanted to be a police officer to save lives. In this book, Darren discusses cases he investigated and reveals how first perceptions are not always accurate, how cases affect the police officer working them, and how police officers can make mistakes. With humor, Darren tells the story of when he asked a drunk driver to drive across a street and park her car. In another case, he tells about the “Drunk Dump” when he and his partner got tired of multiple calls about a drunk that was doing nothing that they could arrest him for. Darren tells stories of how the officers played pranks on each other to overcome symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD). Darren has included many other cases revolving around his law enforcement life.

To show the authenticity of his stories, Darren Burch has provided many pictures within the book. For example, among others, there are pictures of Darren “photobombing” Alice Cooper at a community event, a diagram of a crime scene, a Sexual Assault Examination Report, a Crime Bulletin Composite with an actual photo of a suspect with similar, but not exact, characteristics, and one of him with his mother and brother. Although the book deals with rape, suicide, child abuse, and murder, some aspects made me laugh out loud. For instance, someone called 911 to report that another customer was using all of the dryers in a laundromat. I found it interesting how the media can turn two words around that change what a police officer has said and put them in a bad light.

There are only a couple of things I disliked about this book. It did not affect my reading enjoyment, but there is a small amount of repetitive text in this book. What did affect my enjoyment, and the flow of my reading, was the number of errors in this book. There are misspelled words, extra punctuation, inconsistency in writing numbers, and missing capitalization of the first word in sentences, to name a few. Darren Burch needs to consider having this book edited by a professional editor.

I can only give this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the negative aspects listed above. I did not give it two stars because I enjoyed reading the book. If Darren Burch has it professionally edited, this book will deserve the maximum number of stars.

I recommend this book to adult readers who enjoy reading about crime stories or law enforcement officers. I do not recommend this book to younger readers because of the gory rape, suicide, and murder details. If graphic scenes, sexual content, or borderline profanity are offensive to you, you will want to skip this book. This book may also prove to be a trigger to those who have been victims themselves or know someone who has been a victim of child abuse, murder, suicide, or rape.

What interests me about this book that it recalls true crimes. This makes it different than crime fiction and shows what happens in real life. Thanks for the great review.

Daren's stories interest me. Hopefully the author could take it for another round or editing.

I appreciate how Daren has provided pictures in between. It will be quite amusing, in my opinion. No wonder the book already seems interesting enough, I'm excited! I enjoyed reading your review, thankyou !

I'm excited to read this one because the cover already looks intriguing. It's great that the author included some photos in between chapters; it'll make the book a lot more fun to read and explore at the same time. Great job with the review, thanks.
