Review of The Unveiling Origin of Mecca
Do you want to have an accurate understanding of the tenets of Islam? If your answer is yes, then you should read The Unveiling Origin of Mecca: Rise of Ancient Islam in North Arabia, written by Mohammed Alal Khan. The author educates the audience about how the earth was created in six days. As well, he stipulates what was created in each day; Mohammed got this information from the Quran.
The audience is informed that idolatry began at the time of Jared, son of Mahalaleel. Pagan worship spread to a great extent such that very few people worshipped the true God. Mohammed differentiates between the authentic Ka'ba and the fake Ka'ba. There is a description of the legendary story about the flood that took place during the time of Noah. Mohammed narrates the story of Hagar and Ishmael. He tells the story of how Abraham left them and how they survived on their own. The geographical locations of many ancient and significant places are provided in this book; an example of such a place is Al-akaba ayla mina al-djamra. As well, the author mentions and describes several ancient routes in the Islamic world, such as The King's Highway. This book is an impressive exposition.
This book has convinced me to convert to Islam. What I love most about this treatise is the objectivity of the author. Even though he is a Muslim scholar, he does not restrict himself to just Islamic sources. He gets information from reliable sources outside of Islam and religion. Some examples of such sources are A Literary History of Arabs, History of Sinai, and Roman Architecture From Augustus to Hadrian.
Another positive feature of this book is that the author incorporates valid, accurate, and relevant scientific content into his work. This can be seen in the geological timetable contained in the book. In the timetable, the author describes the story of life on Earth as propagated by palaeontologists. According to this theory, the earth was formed 4.6 billion years ago. This book is a detailed exposition on the origin, history, and tenets of Islam. The author covers all relevant aspects of the religion.
As I read this book, I was disappointed by the number of grammatical errors that I found. The myriad of grammatical errors that I observed shows that the book is not professionally edited.
This book enlightened my mind. I learnt a lot from the text, and I am satisfied with the resolutions of the treatise. However, because of the multitude of errors, I rate it 3 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this text to Muslim scholars. As well, I recommend this text to new Muslim converts. If you are considering adopting Islam as your religion; I encourage you to read this book.
