Winning the battle over negative emotions by Dr Dumisile Madlala is a comprehensive guide that aims to help the reader implement a practical method of changing thought patterns by replacing these thoughts with encouraging thoughts and scriptures. The book offers a detailed description of certain emotions (e.g rejection, hatred, bitterness, insecurity) along with their manifestations and possible causes. I also noted how the author does advise that some issues may need the help of a professional, such as a therapist.

Dr Madlala emphasises that very often our behaviours and feelings are a result of destructive thoughts that are left unattended. She draws a link between the incidence of a certain behaviour or disposition and the thoughts that may be behind them. By keeping the word of God in mind consistently throughout the day, she states that this is the lens that we can use in order to view the numerous content that we consume on a daily basis.

The best aspect of the book was how the author acknowledges how inner turmoil affects individuals on an emotional and spiritual level. Dr Madlala highlights the importance of understanding the emotional triggers that often underlie undesirable behaviours. Using this focus, she aims to create a practical guide in order to help individuals deal with their emotions from the Christian perspective. How different parts of the soul interact and the metaphysical concepts like a soul are briefly outlined and provide helpful context. There was no aspect of this book that I disliked.

I give this book a 3 out of 4 stars rating. There were quite a few minor errors that I found could have been avoided through editing. The book serves as a comprehensive guide to managing emotions and uses an extensive range of verses and examples in order to engage the reader. The text gave the impression that the author gave considerable thought to each of the emotions mentioned in the text. The emotions mentioned in the text (rejection, fear and anxiety, anger, bitterness, hatred, low self-esteem, jealousy and envy, lust, guilt or shame, and depression) can easily be related to. I found that this made the advice more meaningful and personal.

I would recommend this to individuals who are looking for practical ways to tackle certain emotions from a religious perspective. The author includes numerous verses with their interpretations and meditations. I found that these could help strengthen an individual’s spiritual resolve as well as validate their feelings and internal conflicts. The book does not contain any vulgar language or explicit content and could therefore be appropriate for a wide variety of audiences.

the biggest battle a person can have is against himself and his mind, many lose the battle and end up committing suicide that why it is very important to seek professional help when you can't handle yourself anymore, great review.

Why is it showing as the title Winnings the battle over negative emotions when the actual title is Winning the battle over negative emotions
