Review of The First Time Father

Throughout pregnancy, it's the wife who requires the most attention. She is the one who has to carry the baby and pounds of water inside her. Her body changes dramatically, and she must eat a lot for the child's sake. She suffers from morning sickness and back pains. What about her husband? Where is he when all of these happen? Is he enjoying his normal life, and his wife's issues are hers alone?

Actually, an expectant father has many things to learn to mentally and physically support himself and his family. Aside from feeding the newborn and changing diapers, he must save lots of money for several types of costs. He will also encounter various problems, such as gaining weight, anxiety, mood swings, nausea, changes in sex drive, stress, or aches. Is this really true? How is that possible? Are you, a first-time father, starting to panic after hearing that? That's alright! Alfie Thomas shall share his personal experiences and tips with you in his The First Time Father: The Expectant Survival Guide for First-Time Dads Through Pregnancy Journey.

I enjoy the way the author narrates his story with a cheerful tone, honestly depicting his feelings while giving us an outlook on his situation. The humor makes this self-help book a friendly talk between friends, where the author lightly jokes about the difficulties during his wife's pregnancy. For example, the way he acts and thinks while waiting for the child to come out is quite funny. Nonetheless, mothers will understand his wife's labor pains, and fathers can relate to his restlessness, fear, and maybe curiosity.

Moreover, the author carefully explains useful things that parents need to prepare for their children. He introduces the terms, the way a baby develops through the trimesters, the Couvade syndrome, the financial issues, the daily chores, and the living skills kids will need. Along with these, he offers simple but effective solutions. Additionally, there will be warnings about foods and lifestyles to keep both the mother and the little one healthy.

The only shortcoming of this copy is the grammar errors. There are so many of them that I can't give this book the highest score. Thus, I will rate it 3 out of 4 stars. It's most suitable for new parents, but it can be a great help for anyone who is waiting for their newborn. This is a perfect manual for husbands to be more involved in welcoming and raising kids. New dads may be clumsy, nervous, or even awkward when it comes to caring for their babies and their wives, but love will help.

I like that fathers are getting more involved in children upbringing starting especially from infancy. This book sure will come in handy for first-time dads. Great review!

This is the kind of book I love reading. Where the father is much involved as the mother. Thanks for the review

I like that the book also covered the little-known side of parenting - the one from the perspective of fathers who are also going through a very stressful period. It is a pity that the book is not better edited. Thanks for the good review.

The beneficial thing here is that fathers are getting more drawn in with children's youth starting especially from the beginning. This book will be helpful for all daddies. Staggering overview! :techie-studyingbrown:

Without a doubt, this book will be fantastic for first-time fathers, but only if there was a way to avoid grammatical problems. I believe they will greatly distract the reader. Thanks for the review though.

What I find so endearing about this book is nothing other than the cover page. Asides from its warmth, it instantly debunks stereotypes about fatherhood. Thank you for the review.

This book opens up the topic of all the questions fathers and to be honest, mothers as well are asking before and after birth. In addition, it has more detail on the father's perspective. The author is also a father figure in the current times where women and men are working. This helps the father be more involved with his child. I found this book very fascinating as I am a mother of a toddler as well.

It is the man that faces the moral pressure of a pregnancy. He has to give financial support to mother and child. Men deserve paternity leave. This is an out of the box book.
