Review of Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream
Dr Frank L. Douglas' book, Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream, is a memoir in which the author describes all of the difficulties he endured as a child. This is an amazing book because Douglas demonstrates that no matter what obstacles you face, you can succeed in the end.
The author begins by telling us about his boyhood in poverty, as well as his experiences with childhood trauma, and how he came to question whether he still had a place in his family, searching for acceptance. After overcoming all of these challenges, he realizes that if he wants to be successful and achieve all of his objectives, he must embark on this trip alone. Second, he describes how he moved from his home country to another, where he first studied at Lehigh University and then went on to Cornell University Medical School, where he received his medical degree. Discrimination is something he sees and encounters on a regular basis. He starts working at The John Hopkins Hospital many years later and eventually earns a National Institutes of Health Fellowship to serve as a Clinical Research Associate. Finally, he walks us through the process of learning about his career and expands on the speech he gave at the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers when he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. He urged the audience not to give up on their aspirations and to keep moving forward in life despite the challenges.
What I liked about this book was how the author emphasized the importance of never losing hope, no matter how difficult life can be. What piqued my interest was that the author didn't shy away from revealing how widespread discrimination is. The idea that the author missed out on a promotion opportunity due of his ethnicity moved me deeply. I also appreciated the author's inclusion of the difficulties of growing up. That, I believe, would inspire anyone who has also come from a poor and traumatic background to believe that he or she can improve and eventually succeed. I also enjoyed the author's writing style, which was straightforward and straightforward.
There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. It was professionally edited, as I found no grammatical errors that interfered with my enjoyment of the book. I appreciated how well-organized and written the book was.
I rate this book at 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to people who are currently persuading a medical course. I believe that this book will benefit them. I also recommend it to people who want to be successful in life but are facing some hardships in their lives.
