Review of Let's Help You Self-Help!
Let's Help You Self-Help! is the title of Anthony Jacob Braaten's self-help book. As he puts it, the author is "one of those people who learned the skills that are essential for a happy and peaceful life from their own life struggles." This is, in fact, his first book. This handbook is primarily intended for people who are experiencing mental distress and are searching for meaning in their lives. However, as I read, I realized that it would be very beneficial to any man who wants to improve his life skills. The handbook lists and explains the twelve life skills that the author considers to be fundamental. Willpower, Love, Gratitude, Forgiveness, Kindness, Exploration, Adaptation, Limitation, Expression, Creativity, Contribution, and Passion are all important qualities to have. These are the skills that are briefly discussed in this handbook. The author guides you through these fundamental skills by providing concise, clear, best, and straightforward definitions. He explores each of them by constructing three frames or contexts in which they can be used. He defines them in the context of our private/personal lives, our relationships with others, and the context of the universe.
The best aspects of this handbook for me were its simplicity and the author's approachable style. There are no secrets, no artificial discoveries, no liars and no trials to impress. Just telling the truth in a friendly manner and attempting to persuade you. This handbook is not written in such a formal and unusual manner. Throughout the handbook, you can hear the author's friendly, fun, and smooth voice.
This handbook is extremely motivating. The author simply shared what he had learned from his experiences in life. He has included personal stories to demonstrate the importance of the skills in his life. Readers will be more trusting as a result of this. The book is written in an upbeat tone. The author greatly values and respects his readers. This, in my opinion, is an excellent self-help handbook that is best suited for self-evaluation. Braaten poses a plethora of intriguing questions in order to help readers reflect on their true selves. To my delight, Braaten has generously provided readers with enough space in the handbook to write, plan, and exercise. This is more than a book; it is a journal in which you can write about what you have learned and felt about your personality.
There was nothing I disliked about this handbook. There were no mistakes and typos that I discovered. Nothing interfered with my reading experience. This is a professionally edited book. Reading was enjoyable for me. For the reasons stated above, I give this handbook a 4 out of 4 stars.
This handbook is extremely useful to anyone. You must read and improve your life skills. I especially recommend this book to people who are experiencing inner turmoil and have lost hope and meaning in their lives. If you are feeling this way, I believe that reading this will bring you unconditional peace and happiness. That is, if you put into practice and apply what the author teaches.
