The Conscious Divorce: 30 Principles to Help You Choose Yourself by Kristina Jay is a well-organized guide for all people considering divorce. From the very title of the book, it can be concluded that the book is well structured. The entire content of the book and the already mentioned 30 principles are organized into four logical phases. From decision-making through preparations and starting the process itself, the book leads readers to the new beginning as the last phase on the path of conscious divorce.

Although this short book appears to be a divorce manual and a self-help book at first glance, after reading it, it can be said that its content, in a slightly modified form, can be applied to other areas of everyday life. One of the principles that deserve to be first in the book is that we have the right to make our own decisions. By this principle, the author means the right to make decisions that are in our best interest and choose the best for ourselves, although understandably, we may be afraid of the unknown. The importance of this principle is best seen in the fact that the author will periodically return to it in the further course of the book. One of the principles that I really liked is the one that claims that blaming disempowers us because, in that way, we seem to give someone else the right to manage and control our happiness.

What I really liked about The Conscious Divorce: 30 Principles to Help You Choose Yourself is the fact that the author talks about a very complex divorce process from her own experience. In addition, it is commendable that the author equally focused on the principles that serve to motivate and encourage all those who need to go through the divorce process, but she did not forget the principles of a practical nature. For example, the author emphasizes the importance of previous financial security due to the future costs of a lawyer, independent living, and the like. At the end of each chapter and the principle explained is an appropriate quote. The book is very well and logically organized, which makes it pleasant to read.

Although it can be seen from the very title of the book that it will talk about principles, I would like the author to be a little more specific with her advice. I believe that a little information on the average duration of a divorce lawsuit or the average cost of a lawyer would be useful to readers. Of course, the author could have complemented the book with her own experience. I believe that this supplement would provide the necessary concreteness to the content of the book.

Deciding how to rate The Conscious Divorce: 30 Principles to Help You Choose Yourself was easy. Taking everything into consideration, I decided to rate the book with four out of four stars. Pleasant narration and logically organized principles make the book easy to read and go far beyond the occasional sense of generality of its content.

I recommend the book to all readers who are considering divorce or are already in the process of divorce. In addition, I believe that the book would be useful for all readers who are married or thinking about getting married, to point out to them comprehensively and objectively all aspects of ending married life through a divorce.
