Today we know numerous fictions of possible futuristic technologies, but how many can we actually experience in the near future and how much of those fictions can become reality? The Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power written by Roger Duncan and Michael E. Webber is an insightful and inclusive book, describing every aspect of tech that we have today and what we can expect in the future in buildings, transportation and power sector. The authors have done brilliant research for the book from various accredited and reliable sources. The book is well-organized and includes statistical data and current examples, as well as graphs, to support the concept.

The book discusses the opportunities of technologies that we imagine would be in the future considering the current achievements and limits in technology related to Buildings, Transportation and Power sector. The authors have brought out the idea of how far each tech in every sector is efficient and what can be made more efficient. For example, we know that electric vehicles are the future of transportation because they are pollution-free, but are they truly environment friendly?, we know that solar energy will be our most reliable source of energy in the future, but how far have we been able to harness that energy and how much more is required to power the future we see?, and how will we distribute this energy in order to power our sentient structures?, and so on.

This book made me rethink about every technology that we entitle today as “next-gen”. The section on energy, laid out the true face of energy-crisis. Every concept is backed by data from various sources and numbers, which prompted me to question if we are nearing a energy- crisis sooner than estimated. The section on buildings addresses how buildings might evolve to become sentient. The section on transportation discusses every aspect related to transportation, such as fuel, power sources, etc to technologies such as hyperloop and teleportation. The section on power provides a detailed perspective of the power industry and clean energy sources.

This is one of the most insightful books I've ever read. I admire the way the book is written that captures the reader's attention from the first chapter and the brilliant use of statistics to back a theory, which makes the idea more logical. The research done to present the ideas, as well as the effort made to convey the idea in a simple and comprehensible way, is genuinely praiseworthy. I admire the awareness that is brought out in the book, which is elicited through reasoning and quotations from a number of well-known individuals.

Today, we are enjoying the benefits of electricity and envisioning a more technologically advanced future( with flying cars and robots as a part of daily lifestyle), but only few are actually looking at the real picture of how we are going to achieve it. The authors have also put forth their opinions on the changes that we must do today to get to the future we see.

Furthermore, the book has been professionally edited. Despite the fact that the book is based on Science and technology, the language used is easy to understand. Moreover, the reference to sci-fi movies and books makes it more interesting. Overall, the book inspires us to take action today to make tomorrow a better place.

I do not find any negative aspects in this book. Therefore, I’m rating Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power by Roger Duncan and Michael E. Webber, 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about technology and its future scope.
