Do you find yourself struggling to have a full rest every night? Do you know someone who finds it hard to fall asleep? The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by David Durocher provides you with plenty of sleeping techniques that can be very beneficial if you suffer from insomnia. Chapter by chapter, the author develops in full detail an approach to deal with insomnia and improve quality of life without the need for any medication. He introduces the CBT-I sleeping technique. The CBT-I acronym stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia which consists of a drug-free method aiming at treating the underlying causes of insomnia. He proposes a four-week program using this method to tackle sleep disorders. However, the book also presents other methods in case CBT-I does not work.

Besides the different techniques to achieve good sleep quality, the author shares a little bit about his journey, for he suffered from insomnia as a teenager. Another interesting and highly useful aspect of this book is the fact that Durocher also explains the reasons behind insomnia, and the techniques displayed in this book focus on mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

Even though I am not the kind of person who suffers from a sleep disorder, I found that the information has great value and importance. As mentioned above, the book offers different techniques to tackle insomnia without the need to put external toxins in our bodies but encouraging the reader to find peace and wellbeing inside themselves. The author also recognizes the help specialists have in this matter and addresses serious mental diseases such as depression and schizophrenia, as well as everyday struggles such as anxiety and stress. One thing it is worth mentioning is the author’s inclination to Christianity as a form of meditation and method to fight against insomnia. He devotes a couple of chapters to the influence Christianity had in his life and how it could beneficiate the reader. However, I did not find this information disturbing or irrelevant, but rather helpful for those who find support in God.

While reading the book, I found minor errors which did not interfere with my reading. Therefore, I can say I did not find anything I disliked about this book. As a result, I rate The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with 4 out of 4 stars. I believe this book can do good to many people and it is worth reading it.

I would especially recommend this book to people who are having a hard time falling asleep and being active the next day. I also recommend this book to people who have someone in their life or work with someone who suffers from insomnia. This book contains no instances of profanity. As I mentioned above, Christianity is extensively mentioned in this book, so bear that in mind if you are planning to give this book a chance.
