The book’s pivotal idea is that people’s relationship with God depends on the health of a person’s mind and that people make their minds healthy when they seek information. He believes “cultural values and the spiritual health of each society are the main and often the only factors that determine the society’s living standards and its level of poverty.” In the author’s opinion, successful societies thrive because they follow God’s laws and people need to read the Bible and continuously seek information to renew their minds in order to know and understand truth.
There are two main themes in the book. First, humans are often offended by unwanted truth that is revealed, and second, that God is the one and absolute truth. To prove his arguments were valid, the author defined truth, explained rational thinking, and used passages from the Bible explained how God thinks. He asserted that when people are offended by truth, they “have a tendency to replace truths with beliefs and modify reality inside their minds, which causes them to reject the objective truth.” He gave examples of certain beliefs that people hold that keep them from knowing the mind of God and therefore knowing the truth.
The author argued that God’s rationality and truth is based on the idea that the Creator’s mind and truth are reflected in creation itself. He explained the theory of Intelligent Design, and gave evidence to show why the creations of the universe did not come about because of chance and/or coincidences. The author gave a list of qualities that show that there is a creator or God, and showed why scientists are wrong when they use scientific theories to explain how the universe was created. A brief overview of the history of different religions, psychological theories, and quotes from scientists, philosophers, politicians and religious leaders were used to reinforce the author’s point of view.
I give If God is Truth 1 out of 4 stars. Many of the ideas that were presented in this book were not clearly stated. At times it was difficult to tell the difference between the author’s opinion and the scientific theories that were mentioned. When the author talked about history or religion, made certain statements about the living conditions of people in certain countries, talked about economic conditions, and quoted certain psychological theories, he did not cite the sources of the information in the book. The title of this book is intriguing, and there is a great chance that people other than Evangelicals and Protestants leaders may read it. The lack of information about the resources the author used to create this book may lead readers to unreliable sources if they decide to do additional research on the topics that the author has discussed.
The author did not prove his main argument. The history that was presented about Christianity showed that many people have read the Bible and have used it to mislead people. Since this is the case, many people have difficulty developing a healthy mind because there are people who make a deliberate effort to misrepresent God’s laws and other important information. The author also neglected to examine how physical violence and man made laws have kept people from being able to renew their minds with God’s laws and other important information.
When the author spoke about the flaws in Darwin’s theory of natural selection, he stated the there are many things that affect whether certain species survive. However, the author does not seem to realize that there are many reasons why a society does not prosper. People can benefit from the wisdom in the Bible, but the author seems to have a simplistic view of why certain societies have not thrived. Some reasons why certain people or civilizations have not flourished are often hidden and can’t be found in the Bible or history books. It’s also easy to overlook the effect of man made laws and tactics that are oppressive when they don’t have a personal effect on you.
The author made a few good points when he showed why there is a Creator. He made an important point about the fossil record. It is also true that some denominations of the Christian faith have gotten away following God’s laws. While I agree that people don’t always want to see the truth, I also think the author’s negative tone and an unwillingness to examine the reason why people behave in a negative way, can keep people from being open to hearing his views. He does not recognize that his lack of focus on what really matters may be part of the reason why people have not been open to what he has to say – not because he tells the truth. For instance, he focused on whether or not Mother Teresa went to heaven instead of focusing on the fact she did her best to follow the teachings of Jesus to alleviate suffering.
I cannot recommend this book. I don’t think that the representatives of the Evangelical and Protestant churches would be open to reading it because of the author’s negative tone and his omission of references. The author used word such as “stupid” and “lazy’ when he explained and defended his arguments. It is more than likely that he would be able to persuade Evangelical and Protestant leaders and people in general to see his point of view, if he avoids these negative labels when he speaks truth.

It is always sad to me when an author has a great idea, but isn't able to really get it on paper. It sounds like the original idea for this book might have been good, but it is too bad that the author did not manage to pull it off. I guess I'll be skipping this book.
