Review of My Name On The Bullet

Sometimes, unfortunate events may happen and become a major landmark in our lives. Adapting to the new normal may be very challenging. My Name on the Bullet by R. C. Peck is a memoir about the life of Richard Peck.
Richard, like every other young person, is full of aspirations and hopes about his future. He had just completed his first degree and was contemplating the next phase of his life while enjoying his work at Roman's Restaurant. Sadly, an armed robber attacked him while at work and shot him in the head. This devastating event led to serious consequences. He lost his left eye, some brain matter, and other body functions. His goal of serving in the army and some other goals in life became unattainable. Unexpectedly, his mother got diagnosed with cancer and later succumbed to it. A swelling in his neck also turned out to be thyroid cancer. It seemed his life's journey had become darkened and bleak.
Richard's experience was incredibly motivating. It stood out as proof that setbacks in life can be conquered. The author explained how he was able to overcome the unexpected blow and move on to achieve great things in life. There's much to learn from Richard's temerity and courage.
I love how the narrative smoothly switches between different events. This prevented the story from being a boring summary of events. Chapter one briefly narrated how the sad event unfolded. However, the next two chapters focused on other interesting aspects of the author's life. The robbery incident then picks up again in chapter four. I found this feature quite interesting.
My favorite part of the book is the positive and optimistic tone of the author. While struggling to come to terms with his new situation, he did not give up on life. Readers who are struggling with disappointments in life can emulate his positive disposition. The inclusion of firsthand accounts about the night of the shooting was quite original. It was helpful to read about the different points of view and the bits of details that were unknown to the victim.
The author's skill as an educated writer stands out in this book. The grammar flowed smoothly, and the text was professionally edited. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no dislikes about it. I learned much from this memoir. Readers who seek to learn from the experiences of others will find this book valuable.
