Tee Time is a fictional novel written by Bob Maleski. This book has twelve chapters. It follows the adventures of Stan Kunda, a computer maintenance personnel for UNIVAC Computers. Stan is also a huge golfing enthusiast and a traveler.

The book begins with Stan completing his four-month tech training at the UNIVAC Computers training center in Ilion, New York. Having just been assigned to work in South Vietnam in 1967, at the height of the Vietnam War, he decided to take a trip to Clearwater, Florida, to inform his family. His mother expressed her worry about the arrangement, but he told of all the benefits, including double the pay as a bonus and the job lasting a mere eighteen months.

As the plot progresses, Stan takes a flight to Honolulu, Hawaii, before flying out to South Vietnam. On this very flight, he meets Doug Sanders, a famous golf player, who, after a discussion with Stan about his love for the sport, invites him to the Hawaiian Open golf tournament. This begins Stan’s eighteen months of work and adventure, featuring golf on exquisite courses, exotic locations, great food, new friends, and beautiful women. What places does Stan visit? Does he return home healthy and in one piece? Find the answers within this book.

This book comes with a lot of positives. To start with, it explores elements of Asian culture as it applied to tourism during that period. Bob does a good job of taking the reader on a series of journeys through the markets, restaurants, bars, beaches, and bays of South Vietnam and its neighboring countries. Then, the book subtly gives the reader an understanding of the times during the war. It highlighted its impact on Americans working in the area and also on the locals. Also, Bob ensures that dialogue stays on par with the period, using terms that influenced the late 60s. Finally, the book was clearly written with lovers of golf in mind, with descriptions of strokes, course, and golf-themed metaphors.

The book, however, also comes with its negatives. This mainly concerns its plot. The plot, while easy to follow, rarely gives the reader the impression that there is much at stake. Some parts of the book that involved danger, humor, and tragedy were not fully developed. This denies the reader the thrill that comes with such moments.

I found no errors in this book, so it was exceptionally well edited. Therefore, I rate Tee Time 3 out of 4 stars. I did not give this book a higher rating because of its lack of thrill and excitement. This affected my overall satisfaction with the book. I do, however, recommend this book to lovers of golf and Vietnam veterans looking to relax or reminisce on the few positives from the war.

Nothing beats exploring one's passion and chasing dreams. However, I wonder if being in Vietnam poses any threat of these dreams. I'll have to read to find out. Great review.

I had to look again at this book title. I thought it was Tea Time I saw and I just realised the book title is Tee Time. Quite intriguing. I hope that in the end his journey did not affect him negatively and that he was able to return home in one piece. Thank you.

I do not think this book appeals to me, especially with the negative aspect you mentioned. However, I might give this a try at leisure; maybe I would find it more captivating than you did.
