Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's autobiography, "A Dream For Peace," recounts Ghoulem Berrah's life, particularly his involvement in political struggles and his immense contribution to humanity and the peace condition in various African countries, including bringing Algerian independence, mediating conflicts, and living an exemplary life of religious tolerance.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah emerged from poor beginnings as a brilliant student in Algeria and grew to achieve greatness in a variety of professions and nations. He was not only an important activist in the struggle for the decolonization and development of some African countries, but he was also the first scientist to propose a hypothesis on what was later known as the "Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme." He worked closely with President Houphout-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire, and he played a key role in the never-ending effort to begin a dialogue between Palestine and Israel. In his quest for positive change and peace, the author met the likes of Mao Zedong, Robert McNamara, Yasser Arafat, Pope John Paul II, and John F. Kennedy. Each chapter opens another interesting experience from the author's quest for peace.
The author used simple and direct language in this book. Because of the author's interactions with powerful African and other world leaders, he gained high-level political access, allowing him to provide first-hand recollections of numerous well-known historical events. I really like how he describes in great detail his impressions of each country or state he visits. Because of this book, I learned a lot about other African countries. All of these elements combined make the book enjoyable to read. The book follows a chronological order of events. The author's storytelling approach is engaging, and his creative writing made the story both interesting and educational. I particularly enjoyed the pictures in several chapters of the book, as they helped me visualise the people and events the author discussed.
There is nothing negative I found in this book. This book seems excellently edited, as I found only one typographical error in it. The diction is clear and easy to comprehend, and the story's plot is well organized.
The events are portrayed in a seamless and enjoyable manner by the author. The only issue that some readers may have with this book is that it is quite lengthy, and not everyone will have the patience to read such long autobiographical narratives. However, this does not diminish this book's overall brilliance. For the reasons stated above, I give this book 4 out of 4 star.
I recommend this book to history lovers, especially those interested in the political history of Africa and to people interested in issues of colonialism and racism in African societies. I also recommend this book to readers who love memoirs and autobiographies. This is a book that will inspire readers to think about what they can do to contribute to the advancement of their society.
