Review of Winter Love

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Winter Love" by Linda Hayes.]
Are you lonely and looking for companionship after losing a spouse in your twilight years but are afraid of dating because it has been decades since you had a date? What do you consider more important about a person: looks, laughter, eyes, smiles, confidence, or a willingness to share stories? Many older people are lonely and want to have a healthy relationship. However, they no longer look the same as when they were younger, and neither do their potential partners. Are they destined to be alone for the rest of their lives? Winter Love: A Guide to Senior Dating by Linda Hayes has three parts discussing dating after 60. The three parts are: "For Men Only," "For the Ladies," and "General Observations For Both Sexes." Each part discusses relationships, what to do, what not to do, and how to overcome your fears.
I usually avoid self-help books and those surrounding senior citizens and dating, but the sample for this book had me laughing at the anecdotes, so I decided to try it. I am glad I did. I can relate to some topics discussed in this book. For instance, I no longer have the same shape I did when I was younger, and men my age have many flaws and are set in their ways. I like that the book is broken down into three parts, so a reader can read only the parts that pertain to their gender. However, I recommend that readers read the book in its entirety and see the differences between men's and women's thinking. Linda Hayes also provides links in the text to do a background check to find out if someone is being honest, is a pedophile, or has a criminal record. Another one explains how to obtain an untraceable phone number.
One negative aspect of this book was that the author points out to the women to make sure they use good grammar and spelling when doing their online profile, whereas it was not mentioned to the men. I found this to be insulting to female readers.
This book has only a few errors that do not distract from the reading. I am happy to give this professionally edited book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no reason to give this book a lower rating because it is well written, and I enjoyed reading it.
I would recommend this book to any adult reader who wants to learn the difference between how men and women look at things and are interested in getting into a relationship. Although it focuses primarily on senior citizens, many other readers would find this book enjoyable. There are some descriptive sections about sex, so sensitive readers need to be cautious about reading this book.
