Are you having problems with sleeping? Are you having difficulty getting a good sleep at night? The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the book for you. This book has seven chapters. Each chapter focuses on a specific element of sleeplessness. It begins with the basic facts about people suffering from insomnia. The author uses many research papers, books, and surveys to make a statement. I would like to quote a statement from this book. It goes, “… you should write down every negative thought that you are aware of and then write down a replacement thought.”

Insomnia is of two types, primary, and secondary insomnia. There are many sub-categories under these two main categories. They include psychophysiological, idiopathic, and sleep state misperception. The author begins this book with a personal note about his life. It is a four-week program broken down into simple and easy pieces. Many sleep-deprived patients do not know about Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It is an effective method to get rid of insomnia. I came across various topics such as sleep diaries, sleep hygiene, sleep deprivation method, progressive relaxation, breathing techniques, paradoxical intention, etc.

Each topic was clearly laid out by the author. Every detail in this book was backed up with research papers and books. I found breathing techniques to be very useful. I tried them when I was reading, and it felt good. Not only that, but I also liked releasing the tension in our body by tensing the muscles and then releasing them. I am going to add these to my everyday to-do list. On some pages, the alignment was different, but that didn’t hinder me from enjoying the book. David Durocher kept this book short and interesting to read. I came to know many reasons for my insomnia problem.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no reason to reduce a star. Everything in this book was very useful and simple. Though the author primarily talks about US people, the methods can be implemented by anyone, irrespective of their country. I did not come across any typos or grammar errors while reading. This book has been professionally edited. There was nothing to dislike in this book.

I would suggest The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to everyone. This book will be helpful for those who are dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. Learn about 4-7-8 breathing technique in this book!
