A memoir by Peter Simon Karp, LOGJAM of a Beauteous MIND is a book detailing the love between a couple in their trying times. Following a shocking stage IV cancer diagnosis from what was initially guessed to be bronchitis, Peter Simon Karp assumes the role of a "caregiver" to his wife right from the first symptom, down to the diagnosis and treatment. He walks us through the most critical times of his beloved wife and how she deals with the physical side effects resulting from chemotherapy and the mental side effects of a short-term loss of memory that she referred to as a "logjam". Mona Leea Pecheux Karp is portrayed as a resilient, strong, and loving woman even in the face of her worst phobia - death. Although she didn't smoke or involve herself in activities that might have incited the terminal disease, she was actively involved in supporting the cancer research and trials. She grasps every little victory and is very devoted to her family, which played out in her dramatic entrance when her husband was admitted to the hospital. Did she survive? You'll need to read the memoir of this beautiful mother and grandmother to find out.

My favorite part was reading Peter trudge the three-quarters-of-a-mile distance between the hospital and Crowne Plaza hotel in the blizzard just to make a call without a particular contact in mind, just someone, anyone that could help his wife, I thought it a valiant show of love. The switch from third-person to first-person narrative technique was so inflow. I loved reading Mona and Peter's story especially because Mona was described as a fighter, a survivor, not merely a helpless, frail woman in her fifties and I think her state of mind helped along the way.

Although there were a few, indiscernible errors, I loved everything about the book, the mode of narration was on point. Despite it being sort of a tragedy, it was not depressing and gloomy. Despite my slightly-lacking knowledge of medical terms, the book still had me hooked.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. It was a good read, giving it anything below four stars on my part would not justify how amazing and enlightening the book is.

I recommend this book to people who love to read about familial love, survivors, and show of care, excluding sexual references. There is also a high rate of religious words and actions, especially Christianity-wise and it contributes greatly to the plot. The main characters are elderly so older readers might enjoy it more.
