If you want to optimize your life as you age, you’ll want to check out Taking Charge: Volume 2 More Stories on Aging Boldly by Herb Weiss. In this insightful book, Weiss pulls together his best advice to share how we can “age boldly”. He offers great advice, and his perspective is a refreshing change from associating aging with negativity.

Weiss is an author and journalist with over 40 years of experience writing about topics such as aging and health. This book is an interesting collection of his columns, and it features a myriad of topics including caregiving, fraud, Covid-19, employment, long-term care, retirement, travel, and other related areas. You’ll find an abundance of great information tailored to seniors.

I found this book to be chock full of useful information, advice, and resources for living a satisfying life as we age. I thought the author successfully shared some fascinating data. For example, it was surprising to find out the prevalence of unpaid caregivers in our country. The factual data was one of the strengths of the book. Weiss clearly leveraged his knowledge and expertise to provide useful advice to the reader. The information was clearly well-researched. I also appreciated the breadth of information across many important topics.

While I really enjoyed the book, the one section that I didn’t find to be useful was the one about Covid-19. Since this content was specific to a point in time in the pandemic that has now passed, I felt like I was reading irrelevant news. In contrast, the rest of the columns in the book seemed to cover more evergreen topics.

If there’s something we can be sure of, it’s that someday we will all become seniors! Since that’s the case for everyone, it makes sense to create a proactive plan to take charge of your later years.

Taking Charge: Volume 2 More Stories on Aging Boldly was also exceptionally well-edited. I didn’t find any grammatical errors. Given the outstanding content, useful advice, and great writing style, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

This book is for a broad segment of adults, since aging is something that eventually impacts all of us. However, seniors will especially appreciate the book. Caregivers of aging relatives will also find it to be useful. If you’re ready to take charge of your later years, I recommend that you read Taking Charge: Volume 2 More Stories on Aging Boldly.
