Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's novel, A Dream for Peace, is a biography account of his political and personal life. The author was born into a simple family in a small village in Northern Africa. He has always wanted to enter politics in order to make a positive difference in his country. He didn't like how the French colonists were treated better than the Algerian citizens. This compelled him to enter politics in order to liberate his country from all forms of exploitation and racism. His obsession with the revolution in Algeria led him to visit various countries, where he met famous people. As a result of his accomplishments and exceptional managerial skills, the president of the Ivory Coast recognized and appointed him as a special adviser.

In the case of Ghoulem's personal life, he married three different wives. He divorced his first and second wives before marrying Titi, an African Christian who became his soul mate and remained with him until his death. The only problem he faced with Titi was their religious differences, which her family failed to overlook. He has to bring peace to his in-laws just as he has brought peace to Algeria and other parts of the world. If you want to know more about Dr. Ghoulem's political and personal life, pick up a copy of this book.

I love how Dr. Ghoulem fights against the decolonization of Algeria. He did this in a peaceful way rather than staging a violent protest. Throughout the life experience of the writer, he made so many contributions that reshaped not just his own country but the world. He proposed a theory about reverse transcriptase enzym. This proves he was a genius not only in politics but as well as in medicine. Another good thing I can say about the author of the book is his impressive leadership skills. I just love how the Ghoulem play a vital role in ending the conflicts between Israel and Palestine. I can say he was born a leader and chosen by God just like Moses, who led the people out of the wilderness. He is a leader compared to other historical figures like Nelson Mandela, Mao Zedong, John Kennedy, Luther King, and many others. I am very sure if he is the current president of my country, Nigeria, he will try to end corruption, inequality, and nepotism, which are the major issues my country is facing today.

There are two aspects of the novel that I dislike. First, the images in the text aren't very clear. I have to strain my eyes to see it better, although this is understandable given how long it has been snapped. Furthermore, the text only discusses Dr. Berrah's successes and ignores the few failures or challenges he faced in his life. The only sad times in the writer's life were when his in-laws rejected him, his imprisonment in Spain, and a few others I can't recall. I got the impression that he was embarrassed to share his sad moments and only wanted us to see his successful sides. No matter how successful one is, he or she must have a darker side, and the author is no exception.

The negative things I said earlier about the novel will not stop me from giving it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. Overall, I enjoyed the novel, despite its length. I was fascinated and inspired by the author's life experiences. It is worth knowing about Dr. Ghoulem's political achievements and his style of leadership. I will say the book is professionally well-edited since it had just minor errors. I found no sexual content or profanity. Anybody who enjoys autobiographies or nonfiction stories, in particular about African history, should give this book a try.
