Review of A Dream For Peace
[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
How does it feel for one to live like a foreigner in one's homeland? The thought is quite displeasing and unpalatable at the same time. Yet, this is what Dr. Ghoulem Berrah and other citizens of his country faced at the hands of colonists. As a citizen of Algeria, he witnessed the prejudice and subsequent injustice meted out on his people. There was a lack of basic amenities and infrastructure. Even though some of these were lacking, they weren't lacking when it comes to foreigners. This made the writer ponder if they, being citizens, weren't the foreigners in question. The whole event sparked in him a feeling of discontent, which made him determined to free his people from the shackles of injustice and unfair treatment. This was the basis for writing A Dream For Peace.
Having a goal set in the heart is one thing, and achieving that goal is another. Ghoulem had it in his heart to free his people, but had to carve out a way to do this. During his early life, he attended university and made lots of research and discoveries in his quest. The journey toward freedom isn't an easy task. He faced lots of hurdles along the line but kept on pushing. One important concept I learned from this was the concept of determination. A determined man cannot be stopped. The author had nursed that ambition earlier on and set a specific plan to achieve it. I was impressed by his doggedness.
Furthermore, despite all the struggles he faced, his wife was still able to stand by his side. This gave him lots of encouragement. It pays to have an understanding spouse. Throughout the book, the spouse always goes with him on his adventures.
In addition to that, I was inspired by Ghoulem's hunger for knowledge. He practically knew a lot of things, including science. How can one man embody so much wisdom and knowledge? No wonder he had lots of affiliations with different presidents.
I couldn't possibly dislike anything in this book. The author did a great job by adding pictures of events to it. This increased my enjoyment of the book. It also made me forget about the lengthy nature of the book. Moreso, the book was professionally edited, as I noticed just a few errors in it. Hence, I give this book a rating of four out of four stars due to its inspiring content.
I recommend this book to freedom fighters all around the world, as it would be a stepping stone for them to achieve their desired objectives. If Ghoulem can do it successfully, they can also follow his blueprint and do the same.
