That Time l...by David O'Brien is a collection of his memoirs. The stories are arranged in thirty two chapters though not in a chronological order. They are about his experiences from childhood to adulthood. He had an aggressive life. It was packed with intense activities most of them being scrupulous in nature and made him get many run- ins with the law.
This aggressiveness seemed to have been worsened by his father's death, him indulging in drugs from an early age , influence from friends and even going for days with little sleep might have added to it. He had decided to live life to the fullest before he dies at the age of forty like his father did. In this spirit,David went all out with everything. This obviously got him in trouble with everyone from his teachers ,taxi drivers, lawyers, bar managers and police officers too.In the business of going about life everyone faces difficult situations at some point. But it seemed like David underwent more difficult situations which were mostly caused by him. One such time is when he fired his lawyer at an open court.Read That Time I ..to find out how he went about that and many other such scenes.
I enjoyed how the writer describes his experiences at different high end clubs playing blackjack and meeting with famous people in a hilarious manner. He made me want to know what more could be crazier than what he had already done. What I liked most about this memoir is that the mood was relaxing though the scenes were intense. Also the fact that the book will help readers understand that other people go through bigger challenges and they should face their own challenges with courage. I wouldn't forget how generous David was to everyone at the clubs and his love for his dogs was just on another level.
I didn't find anything negative to say about this lovely memoir from the plot to it's editing. A fantastic job was done.
I rate That Time I...by David O'Brien four out of four stars since the book was enjoyable from the first to the last chapter. I only found one typing error throughout the book and didn't see the need of deducting a star for it.
I recommend this to people who want to be taken for a fun ride into David's eventful life. It will be appealing for those who love urban setting adventures. Both young and mature audiences will love the book but it might be more interesting to the young men who will be intrigued by his experiences in businesses, gambling, and of course night club adventures. Also people who enjoy or want to visit new restaurants and other countries will also love reading it.
