Living Forward After Loss is a heartfelt narrative by Kathleen Ho that describes her emotional journey after losing her life partner, David. This is an insightful book that illuminates the common experience of grief. More importantly, it shares a hopefulness about how to emerge from the darkness that accompanies the loss of a loved one.

When Ho lost her husband due to a stroke, her world shattered. She felt hopeless, lost, and even suicidal at times. Eventually, she found her way forward, and she started to put the pieces of her life back together. By observing and journaling about her feelings, Ho captured valuable insights and lessons that she chose to share with others in Living Forward After Loss.

I believe Living Forward After Loss can be a helpful book for many people. Those struggling with their own loss can apply lessons from the book to their own healing process. I appreciated that Ho outlined helpful suggestions for moving forward. One of the most valuable aspects of the book is that it offers ideas for getting out from under a cloud of negativity and finding hope again.

I appreciated the author’s courage in sharing her raw emotions. By seeing how Ho struggled with various aspects of grief, readers can find comfort in the realization that grief is a natural part of life. We all go through it, and there is no shame in the devastation that it can bring.

Although I found a lot of value in reading it, there were a few aspects that could have been improved. At times the book seemed to be a memoir, while at other times it seemed to be a self-help book. Resolving this split personality would have strengthened the book and given it more clarity of purpose. I also found several obvious errors. An additional review would have been helpful.

Overall, I found Living Forward After Loss to be a very worthwhile read. The topic of dealing with death is an important one. Yet, it’s often overlooked. The author should be lauded for creating a book that can help others get through a very difficult time. Her compassionate voice and hopeful outlook will certainly benefit those dealing with loss. Given the book’s strong value, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

This book is for anyone suffering from the loss of a loved one. I also recommend gifting the book to friends or family members who are grieving. Dealing with death can be lonely and painful. This book can provide comfort and remind readers that they’re not alone. There is a way forward, and it is possible to find happiness once again.
