Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a memoir written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. In this book, the author shared his experiences on his journey to rescue his country from racism and colonialism. Born into a family that originated from Algeria, he grew up and saw how his people and other Algerians suffered from discrimination and oppression as compared to the French settlers in their country, who enjoyed numerous benefits. This bothered him a lot and resulted in him nursing the thoughts of liberating his country's people. He excelled in his high school exams, and this academic success paved the way for the numerous scholarships he received to further his studies in other countries. Did his academic pursuits deter him from the mission of liberating his nation from the setbacks holding them back? He didn't allow his busy schedule to stop him. Instead, while studying, he collaborated with several bodies that helped him achieve that mission. Do you think that the process was an easy one for him? Well, this was answered in this write-up.
I love the fact that the writer's mother played a great role in his life by being there for him since his childhood days; the writer's father passed away long before he attained adulthood, and the major person that took over his responsibilities afterward was his mother; this showed the extent of love she had for him. Furthermore, planning to achieve something would have no impact if you quit along the way. The key to being celebrated in the end is to keep trying till a breakthrough comes; the writer encountered lots of hitches in his quest for the freedom of his people; however, he didn't succumb to pressure; he pushed on till the faces of his people became filled with laughter.
This book taught me that dialogue can go a long way toward restoring peace in a nation or among people; solving problems does not have to be done by fighting or engaging in war; the author was a person who believed in the use of dialogue to approach issues, and he effectively used this to help other countries, aside from his own, become united. Another aspect of this book that I loved was the pictures added to it, which gave me a better understanding of the subject. The quality of the pictures incorporated also made the content catchy.
There was no aspect of this book that I disliked because it was comprehensive and professionally edited. There were also so many lessons that I learned from it. All these reasons influenced my decision to give it a rating of four out of four stars.
I, therefore, recommend it to lovers of non-fiction books, readers of books that address racism and wars, and to people that love political stories because the content of this book would be advantageous to them.
