Has it ever crossed your mind that there is more to yoga than having a steady work out? Do you struggle with creating a balance in your diet? If yes, then The Yoga of Healthy Nutrition by Doctor Lynn Wylnn, which is the first book in The Naturopathic Wellness Series, is ideally suited for you. It sheds light on the importance of taking into cognizance the food we consume. It is steeped in the themes of health, routine, and vitality.

This book serves as an introduction to what is to come. It places focus on Anna-Maya-Kosha, a branch of yoga that deals with conscious eating. The author also discusses the effect of having a poor diet and exercise routine. She leaves no stone unturned in opening the eyes of her readers to what it takes to embark on a journey of conscious choice regarding their diet. Also, the author discussed healthy eating and the power it wields. There are five kinds of Prana in the body: Prana, Apana, Samana, Udana, and Vyana. Our body is made up of several layers, with the most familiar one being the aura. How does our diet influence who we become? Read this book to find out.

The book is neatly structured, although the author did not make use of chapters. Instead, he partitioned the book into topics according to what was being discussed. The fundamental truths about the effects of balance in what we ingest were given explicitly. The book is educational and easy to read. She is skillful in choosing words that aid easy comprehension. The author was diligent in conveying her intended message to the reader.

Living in a world where more attention is being placed on the taste of what we eat rather than the benefit it has on the body, it was refreshing to pick up this book and gain more insight on things considered trivial. Before reading this book, I paid less attention to what I consumed and more to the sweetness. However, I was satisfied knowing there was still room for correction. The author’s use of statistics to further solidify the points being made is also impressive. An instance is when the author was pointing out the amount Americans spend on fast food. It shows the extent to which she researched while writing this book.

The inclusion of recipes for various dishes in the concluding part of the book is admirable. The startling thing about this book is the level of knowledge it contains. However, the author did not professionally edit the book. I came across several grammatical errors. Therefore, I am rating this book 3 out of 4 stars because the errors impeded my reading process.

I was not pleased to realize that there was no challenge or try-out section at the end of each topic; this is the only thing I dislike. That would have further enhanced the involvement of the reader in the discussion.

A healthy life starts with us. I recommend this book to people who wish to improve their eating habits and live healthily. This book will also appeal to people who want to learn to be more disciplined and maintain a balanced lifestyle. In the author’s words, “You are a result of what you think, speak, and do.”
