Review of The First Time Father
What do I do to help my tired wife? How do I contribute and ease her pregnant state? What do I do when the baby comes? How do I react to her hysterics and hormones? Questions like these and others surrounding childbirth and fatherhood have for so long lingered from generation to generation. One might wonder what it entails and how fathers are expected to respond to the news of pregnancy. It mostly comes with different emotions depending on the situation on the ground, but in all, the news is expected to come with happiness and pregnancies are a beautiful thing, especially for expectant families. These questions and expected confusions are clarified and discussed comprehensively in this book The First Time Father by Thomas Alfie.
The First Time Father explain the joy that should come with fatherhood, claiming that it is a beautiful thing that men, particularly first-time fathers, should enjoy to the fullest. The book also explains that fatherhood begins at the moment of conception, not at the time of birth or delivery and that it is a lifelong process and a journey. Thomas Alfie indulges the readers by providing practical examples based on real-life circumstances on how to react and what to do at various stages of pregnancy. He also gives thorough insights and advice on what to expect from a pregnant woman during the pregnancy phases and throughout the childbirth experience in his book, The First Time Father. He emphasizes the importance of a father's involvement in his child's development.
Thomas Alfie has a good sense of humor, which is shown in this book by the relatable incidents that will make you laugh. It's worth noting that this book was written based on the author's own personal experiences, making it a very personal read. For fathers who are battling with pregnancy and hormones, the book gives a safe haven and connection. The writer also debunks the myth that the father should be uninvolved throughout the pregnancy by claiming that it takes two people to have a kid, and as a result, both should be equally involved, a part of the journey, and accountable for the child.
The book's flow is straightforward, making it simple to read. The book was written in a professional manner and was self-explanatory. Although I noticed a few flaws, they have no impact on the book's production because they are not clearly evident. I also found the book fascinating because it gives me insight into how fathers deal with the challenges that come with pregnancies and the explicit explanations that make it easy to understand even for a layperson.
Because of all the optimism and knowledge packed in the book, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book's main themes include education, health, and family. I recommend this book to any man who aspires to be a father one day, as well as first-time fathers and fathers who are struggling to cope with the rigors of fatherhood. This book will appeal to anyone who is interested in fatherhood, children, or pregnancies.
