The opening Bette Davis quote made me smile and chuckle. As a nurse who works with the aging, it isn’t the first time I’ve heard this, nor could it be more true. I LOVE that Mr. Weiss comes out of the proverbial starting gate in the Preface not only talking about ageism, but also that it is possible to overcome. I thought it a bit weird……different, perhaps?, that the Acknowledgments section is at the front of the book. There’s no hard and fast rule stating where such sections should go, though.
I found myself going through spots of defensiveness for my profession, as well as outright frustration at such a lack of support for everyone in healthcare, be them trained or not. And those who “suffer” the most? The patients - the ones being cared for in the hospital setting or at home.
The focus on retail support for caregivers and their wards alike is neat. As a nurse, it’s something I definitely take for granted as a some part innate characteristic and other part trained/specifically educated on consideration.
Intentional or not, I think it’s BRILLIANT the repetition of the url links for caregiver resources and works by those quoted in later chapters!
It blows my mind the lengths people will go to scam - to hurt - people. It’s so disheartening. I love and VERY much appreciate the AARP backing & relevant links to overcome/avoid the nonsense of others. I love the apparent resources and the seemingly genuine concern. Nothing is stated as a scare tactic- just facts with ways/ideas to overcome and END the scamming.
This should be required reading for all healthcare professionals, in all fields of medicine! This book wasn’t what I imagined, but I’m glad it wasn’t. It’s what I needed, more so than what I wanted. DEFINITELY a 4/4 rating!!

Edits:
** location 1240/26%: 1st whole paragraph starting with “Republican Rep. Rodney Davis puts aside political differences…”. In his quote, seems like a period is missing from “…free from discrimination That’s why I’m proud to team…”
**location 1898 @40%: I understand Arabic numerals, but they seem random and out of place in this book. “Looking at RI, AARP’s first dashboard detailed the following…”
Same with the last of 5 points at location 1949 @42%.
