It is easier for you to get through life if you stay loyal to your principles at all times. Knowing your rights and fighting for them will help you succeed and enjoy freedom for yourself and others around you. That's what I learned from A Dream For Peace.

In this book, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah tells us about all of the events he has had throughout his life. He was a member of the Algerian liberation fighters, having been born and nurtured in the country. Everywhere he went, he wished for peace. He ultimately decided to continue his studies in France. Algeria was occupied by the French at the time, and so while he was studying, he wanted to fight for his country so that they might have their own independence. He didn't judge individuals of various faiths, but he did appreciate them all equally. On the other hand, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah became an invaluable counselor to President Houphouet-Boigny. He was also the first scientist to propose a theory on the Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme.

Dr. Ghoulem was presented in this novel as a man who, no matter what, never wavered from his faith and principles. I admired how he went so far as to research other people's beliefs. He wanted to learn more about their beliefs so that he could better comprehend how they lived. I liked how he used the example of his Buddhist friend's wife watering her plants, which included orchids that would take a long time to mature and finally bloom. He says that he sees this as a sacrifice for her future generation. Even though she realized she would not survive long enough to see her orchids bloom, she knew someone in her family who would benefit from them. I liked how the author related this to Islamic and Christian deeds. He noted that both of these religions believe in sacrifice for others, and as a Christian, I was able to draw my own conclusions from that.

Furthermore, I like how the author honestly acknowledged how, as a Muslim, he fell in love with a Christian woman who frequented a Roman Catholic Church. Despite their differing beliefs, they were deeply in love with one another because the author believed in one God, regardless of religion. Some of the beliefs he articulated in his book, such as his belief that a woman's responsibility is to stay at home and care for the children as well as the house, were presented in his book. I disagreed with that viewpoint since we now live in a society where many women are employed and self-sufficient, and a female perspective is now required in all sectors of endeavor. This was the aspect of the book that I disliked.

The author packed his book with as much material as he required, and he also wrote from his own experiences, drawing his own conclusions from them. I really liked how he opted to put photographs throughout the book to attract the reader in. Despite the length of the book, I found it worthwhile to read since I learnt new things, particularly about the many religions he discussed. Because of this, as well as what I've said previously, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I found no grammatical problems in this book, indicating that it was exceptionally edited. It's something I'd suggest to anyone who likes historical fiction. People who enjoy reading about other religions would enjoy this book, which is why I recommend it to them. This book may also be utilized as a reliable source of information while writing a report, assignment, or other project.
