The First Time Father by Alfie Thomas is really a valuable non fictional book for all who are now fathers or want to be fathers in future. If we google, we will find that there are very few books on the subject of fatherhood. That is why The First Time Father is unique and a masterpiece. The book will serve as a mirror by which the readers can see whether they are prepared for the fatherhood or not. It tells us what homework we should do as a dad-to-be. It sets and answers the question if we are dutiful to our beloved when she is pregnant. It suggests What will be our responsibilities for our children.

The book is divided into three parts. In the first part, Alfie hashes out all the preparations that we need to take when our partner happens to be pregnant. The writer insists on the readers having the knowledge of how the embryo grows, how to take care of the pregnant partner, when to take her to the hospital, what goods and toiletries are needed to buy and how to fit ourselves for the upcoming fight. Thus, he continues to detail all the requirements for the parenthood. In the second part, the writer discusses how we can develop our relationship with our children. The writer conveys that playing, changing diapers, bathing, dressing, story-telling, and feeding child can help boost up the bonding with our children. In the third part, the writer emphasizes on some of the basic skill developments and the financial security that a father should ensure for his child.

There are so many positive features in the book. As it provides elaborate information about the preparation for pregnancy, taking care of newborn, plan for financial security, it will give confidence to the readers of the book who are going to be fathers. The book will help break the age-old ideas about pregnancy, abortion and father’s role in upbringing children. Alfie Thomas has particularized every single information that a person needs to know during and after his beloved’s pregnancy period. Each and every problem that a father may encounter has been discussed thoroughly in the book. The book is highly informative and educative. It is a complete guide for a dad-to-be. It will help you to take proper preparation before abortion, and it will help you to be a better father.

It seems that the book has been over-paragraphed. So many paragraphs and titles sometimes seem overwhelming and boring. The Readers may face difficulties to understand some of the medical terms used in the book. Too much details are the main power of the book and at the same time the weakness as well. If some of the contents were left out, the book would have been more pleasurable to read.

I will be glad to rate the book 4 out of 4. I think that The book deserves it. The prose style used in the book is a bit light, humorous and daily. The book is well edited. There are no glaring errors.

I strongly recommend the book for the reader who wants to be a good father of his baby and a good partner of a mom-to-be.
