As someone who’s personally married and knows the difficulties that come with it, I appreciated how Vincent Fudge II wrote Smart Love. He broke down the ugly parts of a marriage, explained each person’s perspective, and thoroughly went through ways to work on it. At times, I truly believed Edward was in the wrong for the ways he treated his wife. On the other hand, I also thought Ebony was in the wrong for always threatening to leave him. Together they worked through shared vision exercises to enhance their marriage and find true happiness. There were horrific moments along the way and numerous threats to separate, but they ended up staying together and promising to continue fixing their marriage. There were quite a few takeaways that I took note of to apply to my marriage. For example, I like the idea of SMART visions that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. This can apply to my marriage, along with my friendships. I began reflecting on my own life as I read this book and ways that I could improve all relationships that I have. This book was relatable and enjoyable to read!

I liked the fact that this book was realistic. It didn’t just paint marriage as a fun time. It also didn’t make the main character the “hero” while the reader thinks horribly of his wife. I enjoyed the fair picture of both characters while the author explained in detail the scenarios they experienced and how they moved through them together. I also liked how the book ended with a summary of what the reader already read in the book. This was a nice way of wrapping up the book and hitting the main points one last time.

There weren’t any aspects to this book that I did not enjoy. The author did a tremendous job of discussing the ins and outs of marriage, making it relatable for a reader who’s married. It was easy to follow and was a fun read!

For the reasons listed above, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There was only one error that I noticed, a few instances of profanity, and enough detail to keep a reader hooked.

This book would be great for anyone who wishes to work on their marriage. Whether someone’s marriage is strained or they simply want to prevent it from getting to that point, this book would truly be beneficial. This could also be a great read for someone who wishes to be married but isn’t yet. I don’t believe this book is meant for kids but is great for adults.
