Lou and Dana Vickery laid bare relevant information regarding social capital development in eight elaborate chapters. They introduced the reader to a personal assessment tool aimed at aiding one to understand oneself as well as others. They then went on to explore the concept of social capital while including all it takes to achieve it, its importance in the workplace and personal life, as well as the role of networking in building it. Factors that can prevent us from solidifying our social capital and ways to live above these factors were also explored. To achieve our social capital goals, just like any other personal goal, we learn that individuals need to effectively manage their time and programs. Nonetheless, we are humans, and our bodies may not be willing to work toward our goals. Hence, they explored the role of willpower in situations like this. Furthermore, to build a healthy relationship, there are some values, habits, and skills that individuals must possess. Finally, they discussed the place of emotions in developing social capital.

The rise of technology or social media has blurred the importance of learning certain skills necessary for building social capital. Commendably, this book is here to remind us that the physical world is still very much in existence. This then makes it important for every reader to be aware of and leverage the information therein.

There is a lot to learn from this book. For instance, I deeply understood the role social capital can play in our personal and professional lives. Furthermore, I learned that taking steps to connect with people aimed at our social capital goals is paramount. However, for human relationships to be solid over time, there are various attitudes and values we must possess and exhibit. Hence, a budding relationship could quickly turn sour in the absence of these values. Furthermore, I loved that the authors did not just list them but also explained them in a relatable manner. It is so relatable that it can even make you recall or point out the reasons for the breakdown of your relationships. In the end, individuals may dig deeper into their lives to identify the values missing in their lives and take proactive steps to learn and apply them.

The passion of the authors was apparent in their words, and I loved this. Their expertise was also made apparent by the level of information in the book. Furthermore, while it is easier to advise people to do or adopt a thing, giving them tips and information on how to go about it is much more effective. This is exactly what the authors did.

Regarding the editing, I believe it was professionally done, but I still found enough errors to deduct a star from the rating of the book. Considering that this is a re-review of the book, I was not happy about this. As a result, I am rating it three out of four stars. If this issue is solved, this book deserves a perfect rating. Anyone interested in developing their social capital for their personal or professional life will find this book information-packed. Therefore, I recommend Finding Your Social Groove in a Social Media World to them.

Well said and re-reviewed. To date, social media has been a great weapon that hunts any person who's not self-conscious of their physical existence and robs them of their pertinent relationships with others. This results to an overactive and under-related generation.

I liked your review! This is a great topic. We've all observed and probably commented on how social media has taken over our lives and on the volume of time and attention people spend on social media to the detriment of regular, old-fashioned people skills. I read the review because I saw the title, PEOPLE SKILLS IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA, in the listing of new reviews. I like that title a lot and wish I'd thought of it first. Was that the old title?

I love this and it can actually help in bringing us back to when there was no social media.
We can learn a lot from this book and know how to socialize with people physically.
