Anyone interested in music?

Post by alliebunny »

I have discovered over the years that I really enjoy reading biographies and nonfiction stories about musicians or musical groups. I recently read Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone which was a very interesting book. It took the reader deep inside the punk scene of late 1970s and 80s the issues the band faced, mostly related to the use of drugs. Johnny always seemed like the shy one of the group but after reading the book you will have a new perspective. I actually got the idea to read the book after reading Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk. That book is nonfiction as well but focuses on the whole scene of punk, mostly during the 80s and 90s. It is very neat how the book is styled, all interviews with people who were there, people who were apart of the scene and their experiences. Lastly it has led me to purchase Just Kids, which I just recently started but is basically the story of Patti Smith in the 70s and her infamous relationships with other artists. If you are interested in music, especially punk/rock n roll, or any of these people's lives all three of these books are worth checking out. Most of them revolve around the music and artistic scene in NYC, which is also very fascinating. I would have to say of the three, Please Kill Me is probably the best, partly because it gives the reader a little piece of everyone who made the Punk scene what is.

I have found a new interest in music. I took a music class in college and now have a better understanding of the history of music. I listened to music from all the different eras and genres. It was an eye opener for me. Now, i am learning to play guitar. Music is awesome. It frees the mind just like reading.

I love music. I do listen to lot of sings from pandora. I understand the lyrics and try to sing it myself. I am ffascinated by the lyrics, the music and the artist for these three are the major components to make the song a hit.
