Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr Ghoulem Berrah is a book that narrates the life of Dr Ghoulem. This book has taught me that, despite the odds, I can rise to be whoever I desire. It has also taught me that where I come from doesn’t matter, only what I do now will determine my future. Dr Ghoulem was born and raised in Algeria. Even though he was born into a financially struggling family, he defied all odds and became an international diplomat.
Around the time that he attended university, his country was still undergoing some form of oppression from its colonizers. He and his peers around this time had begun speaking up about these injustices. They would educate people about their rights. Soon enough, they began forming associations that would call out the oppressors. This was just the beginning of his political career and exposure to the world. There was even a time that he got into trouble with the authorities in France when he was a student enrolled in one of the universities there.
A good book entertains, informs and educates. This book has done just that and so much more, and I loved this book for that. I was also very inspired by the life of the good doctor. In this book, I have gotten the tools and mantras that I will use to forge my path too, as I look forward to being a great person in the future too. One of my greatest takeaways is that I should never stop fighting for what I believe in. Also, there is power in numbers. If I ever want to go far, I should surround myself with people who inspire me to be more and to do more, just like Dr Ghoulem did.
I did not spot any grammatical errors or editorial mistakes in the book. This led me to believe that the book was well-edited and well written. The only thing that I did not like about the book was that sometimes it would become boring. This was partly attributed to the fact that the book is long. It would have been much nicer if the author could have divided it into two books. That way, one doesn’t get demoralised to finish. This, however, did not influence my rating of the book, because I believe that a great book can never be judged by its cover or the number of its pages but by the quality of its content.
That being said, I would like to rate this book as 4 out of 4 because I can heavily relate to the life of Dr Ghoulem. Being a young person in a Third World country in Africa has its challenges. While I was reading this book, I felt represented and heard. I also felt inspired and motivated to not let my struggles define me or hinder me from attaining greatness. I would like to recommend this book to young adults, especially those from Africa. This is because I feel that they would relate more and also learn a lot from the life of Dr Ghoulem.
