A Dream For Peace is an autobiography of the illustrious life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, who, by his own account, seemed to have lived a vibrant and fulfilling life. The book gives a very meticulous account of his life during the time that Algeria was still a French colony. The book calves into his early childhood experiences in the eastern region of Algeria during the French colonial era. Due to his brilliance and exceptional work ethic, he received a scholarship to study in France, where he ended up in the city of Bordeaux. He and some other students banded together and formed student organization bodies that peacefully advocated for the liberation of their home countries. He became wanted by French authorities due to his role in the protests against French self-imposition on his home country. He goes into a self-imposed exile and leaves the country to evade arrest by authorities. He finally went to America, focused on his studies, and became a celebrated microbiologist. He eventually goes to serve President Félix Houphouët-Boigny as his ambassador and esteemed advisor.

The book is an interesting piece of work, mainly due to the personality of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, which shines through his writing. He had a strong sense of justice which was a very endearing quality of his. His staunch belief in his country's sovereignty was so strong that, at one point, he was willing to sabotage his future by boycotting his main exams. In addition to the telling story in his writing, Dr. Berrah has provided some pictures. The images in the story give a very apt context that adds a lot to the story. I particularly liked the insights the book provided on the cultures during that period, especially the Arab culture and, in particular, the clan from which he came.

I enjoyed this book as it gives a good account of the historical context that prevailed during Dr. Berrah's time. It also gives a personal account of some of the world's prominent people in their natural elements, such as the late President Boigny during his interactions with Dr. Berrah. Dr. Berrah is such a model human due to his selfless acts for the people in his life and his beloved country.

I loved this autobiography of Algeria's icon and did not find any negative aspects to it. Moreover, the book is exceptionally well-edited and did not encounter any errors. I, therefore, accorded it a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The story flow is seamless and very educative.

I recommend this book to lovers of history and culture as this book gives a good account of the scenes of liberation efforts. The first few chapters paint a backdrop of the cultural practices in some parts of Northern Africa.
