Review of Smart Love
Getting married and planning a wedding is easy. Marriage is hard. It takes work and effort. Staying married for a long time is a feat that only the bravest and strongest can conquer. Vincent Fudge II's book, Smart Love, is a great tool to inspire you to fight for your marriage and make it last till death do you part. Now, this is not a guide book with steps, tips, and abc's for your marriage, but rather an inspirational story of a couple who fought for their marriage. They rode through the storm, and came out successful. Or at the very least, they are still together, which really is a great victory when it comes to being married. And not only did they work through their relationship, but they also made it into a story that helps us get perspective on what it takes to be successful.
We live in a time when we are saturated with images of perfect lifestyles, with social media being the place where your messy life can look picture-perfect all the time. Well, this book is designed to break that illusion and show you that you are, in fact, not alone. You are not the only one who is struggling to keep your marriage going. You might even be relieved to find that you are not half as bad as you thought you were. Because this couple has gone through hell and back. Yet, their story is so relatable. Another great thing about this book is that, intertwined with the story, it gives you so many ideas about how to work on your marriage. Later in the book, he took the time to write a summary of all these tips. In case you were looking for a guide.
Vincent made this book feel very much like a novel instead of being instructional, which made it easy to read. In spite of this, his approach to fixing his marriage was very analytical and almost scientific. I am more of an emotional person myself, so his analytical style was the only thing that felt like a negative aspect, but not enough to make any difference in my enjoyment of the book. Besides that, I cannot think of any other negative aspects.
The book was well written. There were barely any mistakes; the advice was very good; and the story was very engaging. That is why I am rating this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to people who are either trying to start a relationship or who are already in one. This is especially helpful for people who are going through difficult times in a relationship. Be advised, however, that there are some topics that may be more suitable for a mature audience.
