Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a fascinating memoir that never ceases to amaze me. In our history classes back then, we learned about different notable leaders. Reading about Dr. Ghoulem took a different twist. His urge for freedom was mind-blowing and started at school. Dr. Ghoulem is a powerful activist whose story will awe you.
What does leadership entail? Most people see leadership as a comfortable term that requires nothing. In particular, African leadership, and you can tell from the results that their style of leadership isn't effective. Reading about Dr. Ghoulem changed a lot of ideologies for me about leadership, and it was more important to me because he hails from Africa. Dr. Ghoulem had an interesting family and came from a small town in Algeria. The French language and history were compulsory subjects in the school curriculum, but they knew nothing about the history of their country. What an irony! At school, Dr. Ghoulem faced different forms of discrimination from the French colonialists. At this point, Dr. Ghoulem felt the need to liberate his country from these colonial leaders. In further studies outside the motherland, he formed an association with his Muslim brothers; he met, under the name ANEMA (Association of North Africa Muslim Students), to resist the constant discrimination and racism. How would they carry out this fight in a new land? What were the challenges they encountered? Were they able to accomplish their purpose? All these and more are mind-blowing questions that you will love to know the answers to as you read. Grab a copy.
Wow, after reading this book, I picked up my phone. I went to Google to read more about Dr. Ghoulem. I was so inspired by his memoir. I sat down to reflect on the discrimination and challenges he encountered in his fight for freedom. I respect him and others who also took part in this fight. One question I kept asking myself while reading was; if Dr. Ghoulem hadn't picked up this fight, would anybody have? While reading, I came to understand that it takes a powerful man to be able to effect change. I was glad that Dr. Ghoulem was one. I would also give credit to his mother for her love and endless support for him. I doubt Dr. Ghoulem would have made such a remarkable history without the push he got from his mother. I celebrate a valiant leader, Dr. Ghoulem, for the milestone he reached in the world of science. It was another aspect of his memoir that struck me. I want to thank the author for this well-detailed memoir. I felt like nothing was left out in this book. I enjoyed the style of writing and the use of photographs, which made me feel like I was part of the memoir.
This is an exciting, thought-provoking memoir of an exceptional leader. However, I found one error. The spaces and writing were very small, which made my eyes strain a little. Aside from this, this book was exquisite.
I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars, as what has been said thus far is insufficient to deduct any atars. I recommend this book to lovers of memoirs and history. Also, those who love books on leadership would enjoy this.
