Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Seeking... Finding... Healing... by Becky Lu Jackson is a nonfiction book that aims at helping people deal with previous trauma and previous unpleasant experiences. The author begins her book by sharing her personal experience of dealing with destructive addictions that impacted her family life. She also shares with us the healing experiences and stories of other people. The author describes her own healing process throughout the years and shares the methods and tools she used. Throughout the book, she shows us that healing comes from communicating with our inner family and younger selves and providing them with comfort and security. Moreover, the author believes that by staying in touch with our younger selves, we can gain insight into the issues that need to be resolved. Also, we get to replace old, flawed beliefs with new ones. This book provides a step-by-step process for coping with the past and achieving inner peace.
At the beginning of the book, the author encouraged readers to keep an open mind, as the methods she presented were not traditional treatments. In addition, I have never heard of such a therapeutic process. However, I believe that most emotional problems stem from unresolved issues from the past, and therefore, I could agree with the author's approach. Furthermore, I found the author’s words comforting and reassuring. She emphasized that while connecting and visualizing our inner family could be challenging at first, the results of constant trying would be astounding.
The book was an easy guide that provided step-by-step instructions on how to meditate and visualize having conversations with both younger and future selves. Moreover, the chapters were brief and straight to the point. Besides meditation, the book also emphasized the importance of journaling and recording everything happening during the visualization sessions.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. I was perplexed at the beginning of the book as to what the author meant by "healing the inner family." She did, however, clarify what she meant shortly afterward. I found a few errors while reading; nonetheless, they did not affect the flow of my read.
I rate Seeking... Finding... Healing… 4 out of 4 stars. As I mentioned earlier, there was nothing about the book that I did not like. The book covered some crucial topics, like self-awareness, inner peace, and self-forgiveness. Additionally, it gave me a fresh perspective on life and myself.
I recommend this book to anyone who is open to new concepts that encourage self-discovery. I also recommend this book to people who have experienced trauma in the past, as it will help them develop positive relationships with themselves and cope with the impacts of trauma.
