Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Seeking... Finding... Healing... by Becky Lu Jackson is a self-help book on how to use inner family healing visualizations to achieve recovery, sense of peace, and contentment. Becky provides numerous instructions on how to visualize inner family healing as well as suggestions on how to improve throughout this book.
By using this visualization technique, the author herself overcame an eating disorder. In her visualizations, she invited her inner selves and treated them with compassion, acceptance, and understanding. She listened to them, took care of them, and gradually worked to heal them. And as she healed her inner selves, she was able to address her issues and improve both emotionally and physically. She also benefited from higher self-esteem and self-respect from the appreciation and self-love it takes to visualize her inner family.
Seeking... Finding... Healing... keeps the readers engaged as the author describes her personal experience all the while giving instructions to them on how to do the same. As a fellow person who has gone through trauma and addiction and overcomes them, she provides better advice and personal insights. The instructions, on the other hand, are easy to follow for they have step-by-step structure and she outlined the whole process. I also like how Becky considers the people who lack the vivid imagination to visualize the process. And as for them, she provided tips on how to get better at visualizing things slowly starting from normal mundane objects.
One intriguing aspect of this book is how the author used visualization to not only envision her younger selves, as most inner child healing concepts do, but also her future selves as part of her inner family. She could therefore gain knowledge, wisdom, and comfort from her more mature selves. I like this part the most because it was calming and reassuring to read that her older selves are with her and support her throughout her progress.
In the book, Becky described several occasions when different persons than her inner selves appeared during her visualization sessions. I was surprised by this miracle since I thought the visualization will only include one’s inner selves. It's encouraging to read that she was able to get through difficult times in her life because of this, even though I don't understand how this can happen and neither did the book explain it.
Moreover, Becky gave a number of uplifting and encouraging remarks from individuals she had helped with their inner family healing journey. Reading through this part helps me realize not everyone has the same progress as others and even the way they visualize their inner selves differ.
Another aspect I like about this book is that Becky is able to create a safe place for herself in her mind: a place without judgement and criticism, a place so comforting and calming. I believe this might help people with insecurity or inferiority complex.
I rate this book four out of four stars for all the reasons I have mentioned above. It seems like the book is edited professionally as there are no errors. Seeking... Finding... Healing... might be a big help to those who are dealing with self-depreciation, self-doubt and anxiety.
I would recommend this book to those seeking recovery and healing as well as those who are interested in learning about inner child or inner family healing methods.
