The book Reconfigurement is a book centered around financially planning ahead. The author, E. Alan Fleischauer has been a financial advisor for more than 20 years, and in this book, he shares all he's learnt about planning ahead when it comes to your finances. He shares essential insights around areas such as income protection plans to mitigate against losing your ability to make an income to ensure you're still able to get an income and sustain your lifestyle and that of your family. Additionally, he shares about working at a job you love and goes ahead to share critical tips and resources that help you decide the career path that is best for you based on career testing. Other areas covered in the book are investing and the different investments one can consider, retirement planning, long-term care, and how to prepare for it.

Moreover, he goes deep into health insurance, wills, and trusts. Later in the book, the author highlights the importance of budgeting and then shares a list of books he recommends to the readers. The books are centered around ideas shared in this book and tips on jobs people can do from home, seeing the rise of people quitting their jobs.

I found the author's writing style very educative and lighthearted. He constantly infused jokes into the book, making the often heavy topic of finances digestible. He cites relevant, credible references to back up the concepts discussed in the book. This shows that the book's information is well researched and thus reliable as a basis for making financial decisions. I also loved the use of personal experiences infused into the book, making it relatable. Something else that blew my mind away was the many links the author shared for career testing. I found that to be invaluable. The books he recommended in the last chapter were also highly thoughtful. I have identified some books that picked my interest from the list and will be delving into them.

While I loved the book, there are two things that I didn't exactly like. The first is that several ideas described in the book best suit a U.S. audience. Aspects such as 401(K), Roth IRA, and Medicare are popular in the U.S. However, I tried to contextualize such instances to what is available in my country. The second thing is that the author did some product advertisements for his company's products in several cases, which may create a bias for readers. However, can you blame him? It's his book, and he only can decide what goes into it, huh?

That being said, I still rate the book 4 out 4 stars as the book was exemplary written and well edited, and I learnt a great deal about retirement planning.

I recommend the book to anyone interested in planning their retirement (which I suppose should be everyone.) Readers between the ages of 25 to 65 would find it highly beneficial to their financial lives. It is appropriate for people with no finance background as it can provide a foundation for a better understanding of several financial planning concepts. Equally, it might offer depth or a different perspective to people who are advanced in the financial planning world.
