Review of Reconfigurement
When you start reading Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer, it feels as if you are at a motivational presentation by a good speaker. It is as if Fleischauer is talking directly to you, explaining how you should plan your life and why you should do it the way he advises. As you read along, you begin to understand that there is no other successful way. Proven methods of the past are no longer giving the desired results because people reach much higher ages before dying. The why becomes evident and then the how is explored and explained. All the critical aspects of financial planning are covered, and the information needed is based on American laws. In a chapter on deciding what career changes you must make to provide for a longer retirement period because of increasing longevity, Fleischauer gives valuable web pages to use and explore. It is essential to love what you do for a living.
What I liked about this book was the humor and the feeling that the author was talking directly to you. It is an easy-to-read book on an important topic that affects us all. The author is an experienced financial advisor and knows all the pitfalls. The editing was expertly done, and I did not find any typos. The layout contributes to making the reading a pleasant experience without changing the seriousness of the content.
I did not find anything that I disliked. The fact that all the information is based on American law makes it less accessible to me, a South African citizen, but the principles are all still applicable. I can now go to my financial advisor equipped with a good idea of what I want and which questions I must ask.
I rate this book [4 out of 4 stars[/b] because it is exactly what it promised to be. It guides you into reconfiguring your mindset for a successful retirement and a happier old age. It gives concrete advice and useful links to web pages. And on top of that, it is entertaining, and uplifting, and not too long. It is a very good read.
I recommend this book to all those who have started to earn a salary. Read this book now and think about the advice it gives you. Then put it away and read it again when you get married. Thereafter, you will have to read it every ten years or so to see if you are still on track with your financial provision and protection program. I also advise everybody who wants to retire in comfort, no matter what age or stage in their lives, to read this book and take the advice given to heart.
