[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Financial Independence Is Very Attractive" by Karen L. Justice ChFC, CLU, MSFS.]
Financial Independence is Very Attractive by Karen L. Justice ChFC, CLU, MSFS is a short book that gives an overview of how to save and invest money for a financially stable future. This book touches on a variety of topics, such as investing, student loans, general advice for the timing of purchases, and much more. The book is split into fourteen different sections, and each section covers a new topic. The sections can be read in any order, or they could be skipped if they do not apply to the reader's life. The book is also quite short, less than fifty pages, but gives enough explanation in each section so that it is not overwhelming.
I think, for me personally, the most informative section was the first section. It gave a bunch of different terms that are associated with investment and mentioned why they are important. It also gave examples of resources that could be accessed if the reader wants to know more. This was common throughout the whole book, as most sections had a list of additional resources at the end. The list of resources was my favorite part of this book.
The part I liked least was some of the suggestions, specifically in the student loan section. I feel like saying that student loans are almost always avoidable is a bit of a reach for many people. As a student myself, I see the lengths people go to avoid debt, but for many, it is simply not possible, given their circumstances. The section did have good suggestions as well. Some of them include going to a public school that's more affordable or trying to cut out unnecessary expenses.
I did notice a few minor issues throughout the novel. However, there was not a significant number. I believe the book was professionally edited.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I think the author did an excellent job touching on many different topics that are important for financial stability and planning. I feel as though there was enough detail, but it was not overwhelming. I feel as though anyone who is of working age would benefit from reading this book. Understanding finances is a valuable life skill and one that many do not have. The length of this book is also a plus because it does not take hours upon hours to digest. It truly is a book that provides valuable information on finances.
