Review of Reconfigurement
Did you know that retirement was previously set for people of 65 years? Yep, I didn’t know that either till I dived into Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer. The author, E. Alan Fleischauer, throughout the book, is generous with the knowledge that he has acquired with time. The book, being short and sweet as he put it, may as well be a saving grace for those ignorant of financial aspects. Being certified in different areas relating to finance and owning a financial advisory firm, I would encourage one to indulge in the pages offered in this book.
Throughout the book, the author stresses one aspect: planning. He advises on different topics that relate to finances. Career assessments, investments, insurance, retirement planning, savings, etc. These are all talked about in the book. Through well-researched and detailed information, the author gives advice and ideas on things to incorporate into our financial lives. Some financial decisions should be made with guidance because they may end up causing more harm than good. He dives into life insurance, survivor benefits, social security, 401(k), and the like, to mention a few.
I loved how entertaining the book was. It has a lot of character. Most would expect the book to be dull due to the topics being discussed, but I found it quite interesting. It’s not written like any other self-help book I’ve read. The author's personality comes to rise within the pages. He jokes as he explains different things. The jokes are also strategically placed; after disposing of loads of content, a joke follows, which breaks the monotony that may have started building. He also ensures to keep the explanations to the point and short. This means, with it having seventy-nine pages and the inclusion of notes about the author, a considerable amount of knowledge is gained.
I loved how he explained everything. He first explains the meaning of some of the words before divulging the information related to the topic. I loved that since I found myself unfamiliar with some of the terms. Some of them included defined benefits, real estate investment trusts (REITs), 529 college plans, and Roth IRAs. He also includes puns that managed to get a good laugh out of me.
The only downside is that the book mainly focuses on American concepts. This means that some of the things do not apply to those who aren’t American, although one may look for similar concepts and make use of them. although it didn’t affect how much I enjoyed the book.
The book was exceptionally well edited. I would rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars since I managed to learn a lot from it. It also helped me understand myself better through the different sites he gives to assess one’s self in relation to your career, skills, and personality. I would recommend this book to any adult or young adult since the book's theme is planning. I feel like everyone needs to be equipped with financial knowledge.
