This selfhelp book, Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer lives up to it's title. The author introduces himself in such a way that the reader understands from the onset who he is, what the purpose of the book is and how the contents of the book can be utilized to re-invent yourself and your life. The book as a whole grants insight into the pistons that drive the financial world, which equips the reader with the means to re-evaluate his/her monetary health. It is written in a methodical way, discussing each step to a better retirement. The aim is to answer questions pertaining to and including planning for retirement, the importance of income, career change (if so inclined), part-time work, budgeting and so much more.

I find it to be very engaging and relatable. Even though the author is qualified to help with each step, he ensures that the reader gleans his personality. The book is compendious, all-inclusive and even holistic to an extent. It feels like the author is having a casual conversation with you while checking that you are still in step. He uses humor to mitigate and encourage perserverence.

There is no doubt that the book is objective. Information has been drawn from a variety of sources, although the author gives the reader a balanced interpretation by using narrative. As the book progresses, it is clear that the author assumes that the subject has captivated the reader. He concludes that by this time the reader is interested and might be contemplating putting the plan into action.

The book comes together agreeably. I admire the author's thoughtfulness. The beginning and the end of each chapter is well thought out. I love how he makes it a point to remind the reader at regular intervals about what the theme of the book is. He accentuates important points and also sets the tone for the next chapter. However, the formatting needs attention and there are a few grammatical errors and typos.

I recommend this book to anyone who needs help changing their lifestyle, career and finances to plan for retirement, despite the fact that the author limits it to Americans. I give the book a rating of four out of four stars. I am more inclined to have given in it a 3,5 out of 4 stars rating, because although the errors are minimal they are noticeable. I do caution that there is some humor and some witty references of a religious nature and it might jar some readers' sensitivities. Overall, compliments to the author for nailing the fine line between narrative and self improvement that remains blurred to so many other writers.
