Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
The book Seeking… Finding… Healing…by Becky Lu Jackson is a complete guide to transforming all your life's experiences to become a source of strength. The author shares how you can tap into all the younger versions of yourself at different ages, communicate with them, and listen to them with compassion to heal any dysfunctional traits and coping mechanisms that may have resulted from negative childhood experiences. However, the book is not only about healing your younger self or "inner child work." Mrs. Jackson shares how you can tap into your future selves at different ages to obtain wisdom and guidance from them. The author refers to all these works as "Inner Family Healing." She shares meditations and visualizations that are aimed at helping the reader through their Inner Family Healing journey. She also vulnerably shares her own experiences and those of some of her clients who have used the model to transform their lives and strengthen their relationships with themselves.
I love how the author shares her experiences so vulnerably without seeming like a perfectionist or making the healing look unattainable. She also shares the testimonies of some of her clients who have used the Inner Family Healing model to transform their lives. This gives the reader something to relate to and hope for attaining their healing. Equally, I love that the author makes several references to the works of other thought leaders on the topic so that the reader can research or read further. Additionally, the book's calls for action that require the reader to do their self-assessment are invaluable. Taking part in them helped me uncover some unhealthy beliefs and habits that I have around topics such as relationships and finances.
The meditations and visualizations shared in the book were extremely groundbreaking for me, and while I've only done a few of them, I have already been able to connect with some of my younger selves. I also like that the author has shared her contacts and ways to reach her if one needs extra help with the Inner Family Healing journey. While some might see it as an advertising strategy, I find it a helpful resource.
I honestly didn't find anything to dislike in this book. I think the concepts discussed in the book are invaluable. Unlike other works around inner child healing, you don't have to have traumatic experiences as a child to do the Inner Family work. The Inner Family Healing invites us all to create a deeper connection with ourselves and our souls regardless of the experiences we may have had.
Aside from being well-written, the book was also exceptionally well edited. Therefore, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend the book to readers interested in self-growth and development. Anyone who feels that their upbringing might be holding them back from achieving their desired goals would find this work transformational. However, to reap maximum benefit from the book, one has to read the book more than once to internalize the concepts. Equally, one has to be ready to face some uncomfortable truths and feelings about their younger selves.
