Review of Kick the Sugar Habit
Sugar is highly addictive. The problem is: it's found in every food product and beverage we consume. Alexandra Pena learned how dangerous sugar was to her health after she discovered she had breast cancer. Kick the Sugar Habit details Alexandra's lifestyle change as she went through breast cancer and the healthy choices she chose in order to live a sustainable life. Exercising, eating healthy, journaling, and limiting her sugar intake helped Alexandra, so she decided to write this book to give people the formula that can help them, too.
Alexandra tells the full origin story of sugar. The sugarcane discussion was mind-blowing to read because it details how sugar is made from beginning to end. This book's primary goal is to educate and inform readers that our body needs the right amount of nutrients, minerals, carbohydrates, water, and good fats, to live a healthy life. Of course, it's hard to eliminate sugar from your life, but it's about choosing healthier sugars. The "Types of Sugar" chapter will point readers in the right direction of what to avoid and which sugars are better to consume. I was shocked at the tons of sugar that are produced in countries throughout the world. I love that the author takes her time to include solutions to curve the body's need for sugar. Even though the author is not a nutritionist, doctor, or nurse, she's providing credible research from institutions and publications that helped her beat breast cancer.
As I stated before, the author is helping readers in this book in a major way. I love visuals, so for Alexandra to implement these detailed charts about a sugar detox/juicing plan with what she eats; shows that she cares by showcasing her food routine. Even though breast cancer mainly occurs in women, I believe that not only women should learn the lessons provided in this book about taking care of your body.
As a male, who never had breast cancer, I was still able to connect with the author's story because someone in my family had this diagnosis. That's why I'm recommending anyone who is going through breast cancer or knows someone personally with this diagnosis to get this book. It's all about sharing wisdom so others can live long, productive lives.
Kick the Sugar Habit is an exceptionally well-edited book that's free of spelling or grammar errors. I took many lessons with me from my reading of this story. The chapters are short and the content is easy to read and follow. Alexandra showed that she did her homework when writing this book and it shows in the references page at the end of the book. I found nothing I disliked about this story. I'm giving this book a high rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
