Modify, adapt, reshape, reform or alter. These are just a few synonyms for the one-word title of this book, Reconfigurement. The author, E. Alan Fleischauer, sets out to help all readers reconfigure (modify, adapt, reshape, reform or alter) personal financial and retirement planning by stating facts, projecting forward and equipping the reader with simplified, easy to understand financial savvy. It is a fact that the average life expectancy is growing worldwide and even with the best planning those extra years need to be catered for from a financial prospective. The author’s sources state that an estimated 67% of the American population do not have a retirement plan and 32% do not have a financial plan and even those who do have a plan in place are many times ambushed by unforeseen taxation and/ or limitations in their planning. The author has done a great job of what he set out to do as stated in his conclusion ‘I really tried to make it easy to read and enjoyable, even with the financial subject matter’. Page 77. In this book, the quagmire that is financial and retirement planning is made simply for readers of all ages. The rallying call for financial planning (the earlier the better but it’s never too late to start) is the well covered theme throughout the book and the author points the reader to a good number of very helpful resources to help the reader make informed decisions in their planning and reconfigure as necessary.

There is a lot to appreciate about Reconfigurement. starting with how much useful information is packed into its pages. The book reads like a transcript from a stand-up comedy, financial planning conference. The conversational tone the author uses helps the reader connect with him on a personal level. The authority and ease with which Alan Fleischauer presents information displays his expertise in the subject matter even if one has not read his expansive profile. The little detail he throws in about how his creative juices were awakened add spice to an already well flavoured buffet of material.

The book is written for an American audience though readers from all over the world will benefit from the lessons provided in the book. I do not have anything negative to say about the book. I enjoyed the sprinkling of jokes, even the cheesy ones, to break the tension as the reader imbibes the hard, boring, necessary lessons.

The book is professionally edited and well researched for its target audience. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the author’s personality and expertise.

I would recommend this book for all readers who are earning an income whatever their country of residence. One is never too young to start planning for their retirement and have a financial plan in place. No one is too far gone to start financial and retirement planning. For those who already have a plan in place, E. Alan Fleischauer has set guidelines that will help each individual reconfigure their plans and expectations. Each state in the USA has laws particular to that state. Each country will have its own laws and taxation systems that will affect financial and retirement planning but the pointers given on the general American system provides a good insight on what to expect or look out for no matter where in the world one lives.
