Review of Reconfigurement
E. Alan Fleischauer's book, Reconfigurement, is a humour-filled guide that aims to deliver its readers from a monotone, labour-filled retirement. After much research on books that address the side of retirement where people are less focused on the numbers and the other side that lays a heavy emphasis on numbers and planning, Alan created the concept of Reconfigurement financial planning. This concept examines both sides of the retirement-equation arguement and guides readers on how to reconfigure their lives at any stage and plan ahead. Alan views the usual numbers-oriented plan that has long-been used to evaluate a client's ability to retire as outdated and in need of a reevaluation in which it will be combined with employment and other strategies that fit our current reality. This book addresses things that readers may not associate with retirement, such as starting a new business, beginning part-time work, long-term care, Social Security timing, travel, an active or a quiet lifestyle, and the time you might die.
The book uses a humour-filled approach to divulge the author's theory to its readers. The combination of borrowed and original jokes with facts was fascinating and made this book easy to read. Many people may be turned off by the author's frequent jokes and playful tone, but as this book is discussing a notoriously boring subject: finances, the author's humour was more than called for. The book's content carries a conversational tone; a clever idea from the author that attempts to instil a sense of converse, as though discussing one's finances with one's financial advisor. Through this, he situates himself into each reader's life and finances. Using the age-old art of story telling, Alan simplifies his points in a way that the average layman can understand.
The author included assessments, which was an exquisite idea. By including these assessments, the author builds the confidence of the reader and instils a sense of calm over the possible panic they might have felt about tackling their future job prospects. This also makes readers that have already situated themselves in a job to reevaluate their choices. The book is also peppered with quotes from famous figures that help push his narrative, thereby adding an extra quality to the book. He provided an in-depth discussion and analysis on life insurance. Everything from the types to the importance was discussed. I couldn't find anything to hate about this book.
Due to the humour-filled approach, detailed facts, easy-to-understand method of discussing numbers, analysis of life insurance, assessments, the general conversational tone, and the error-free content, this book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This well-edited book is a treasure trove of insight into retirement planning.
I would recommend this book to anyone in the working class, either those who are just starting out to those who are about to leave, as this book provides an interesting view on how to approach one's retirement planning.
