Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a non-fictional book that gives insight into the financial subject matter and the concept of reconfiguring one’s life for the future. First, he addresses the reality that people are now living longer than before due to the advancements in technology and medicine but are we financially ready for that?
Alan Fleischauer introduces his concept of Reconfigurement financial planning and also talks about career change and assessments, retirement plans, insurance, investments, and social security. He highlights the importance of planning for the future, especially for those who want to retire early. He mentions key concepts throughout the book that helps to avoid the struggle of financial management by the time people begin to get old and can’t work more to earn more. As a financial adviser, he also gives some stories and examples of people stuck in financial problems and how the strategies have helped them. In one of the chapters, he mentions some websites and tests to take that would help to determine the kind of jobs for different people which is also helpful.
I really enjoyed the easy flow of the writing. The stories that Alan gave as examples and the frequent jokes made the book more interesting and jovial. He even made something that is difficult for most people seem interesting enough to try. For example, budgeting, even when it seems all your incoming finance is being eaten up by one thing or the other including family, friends, and emergencies.
I found nothing particularly negative about the book. Even though I get bored reading about finances and retirement plans like most young people, Alan made sure to make it fun and easy to read and understand. His arrangement of chapters and straight to the point style of writing was quite helpful too.
I would rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars because it deserves nothing less. In addition to my reasons above, I found no grammatical or typographical errors. It was well edited.
Though the book was initially for 30 to 40-year-old readers, I think every adult would benefit from reading the strategies outlined in it. People in financial sectors or those generally interested in finances including advisors should invest time in reading the book too. As many people are stuck in jobs that they do not like, in the book they could find useful tips in making a career assessment and changing jobs rather than just simply quitting it.
