Even though knowing how money works is crucial for getting by in life, schools don't usually teach this subject. Before we hit rock bottom, few of us realize just how important financial literacy is for our long-term success. Despite the fact that we interact with money on a daily basis, make major life choices based on the prospect of financial gain, and choose our careers accordingly, many of us still struggle financially at some point in our lifetime. For anyone interested in learning more about effective money management and strategic planning, E. Alan Fleischauer's Reconfigurement is an excellent place to start. You don't have to wait until you're ready to retire to start contemplating the direction you want to take your life in order to do so.

A quick read that gets right to the point, Reconfigurement is exactly what it sounds like. Fleischauer skips the preamble and gets right to the point. The book covers a wide range of important topics, from planning and discipline to health and professional choices, all of which have a role in determining how joyful our stories ultimately turn out to be.

There were many things I liked about the book, but I really enjoyed the parts written in the form of dialogue. I liked how he illustrated his points with actual events. The book's accessibility is largely due to the author's straightforward English, which deserves praise. Works like this can easily become dull for a reader, but his excellent use of humor completely dispelled any monotony. 

I did not come across any major flaws that warranted me having to write a bad review. However, it's important to note that the book is largely written for an American readership. While the ideas presented in Reconfigurement are applicable to anybody, some non-American readers may be put off by the book's focus on the US retirement system.

There is nothing missing in this book to warrant deducting a star, that is why I rate Reconfigurement 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to anyone nearing retirement who wants to make the most of their remaining working years without being overburdened by financial concerns. However, given the reduction in pensions, all of us can greatly benefit from reading it. Even if you are a student, I believe it will help you significantly because you will realize that picking a career that you can envision yourself doing every day and loving is much more important than the money you may make.
